Should I get the 2" leveling ket or do a 4.5 or 6" lift?
Bro's,
I was gonna ask about this on another more specific thread but it seems that we have the most replies going about lift's, wheels, tires, etc. And since I'm trying to squeeze the largest tire possible on stock rims with no lift or cutting I was wondering if either of the following two factors should be considered. Backspace and Offset. I read elsewhere on here that the 06’ stock rims have substantial backspacing. Where can we find these specs online? Some tire manufacturers actually list the required BS to mount a tire. If the stock BS is substantial does that help or hinder the installation of taller/wider tires. I would assume help but then what do I know.
Hey Cquestad -
Dude, (doin' the math) between most 315's and the 37" Dirt Grips, there is only 2.4 inches (or 1.2 inches top and bottom) difference so for me, I say heck, go for the 37's and be done with it. I mean, if some guys are getting 315's on their rigs (and I don't doubt it), then what's another 1.2"? Oh, and most places, the price difference between the 35" and 37" Dirt Grips is only 4-5 bucks????! Still searching for the best price, but since I'm doing an install on the stock Thunderoad rims, I guess I'll be orderin' em' online and havin em' installed locally. NTW is an official distributor. Check the web or your yellow pages. I have a call into a place near me but because they are special order he said they will have to drop ship them. It's a jeep place.
All I can say is this:
One of the worst mistakes (and there have been many) I ever made when it came to "oh, this will be fine" was my Harley. At the time, the 1000cc Roadster was great, had lots of fun. And it took just under a year for that to get old. Then regretfully, it took almost 11 years to finally afford the upgrade to the new 1450cc Bagger.
I'm waitin', and saving as long as it takes. 37's will adorn The Patriot as soon as the stock 265's wear out. And I'm hoping I can squeeze them on with just new coils and new shocks without the expense of a true lift kit. I like that look, but hey that's just my taste.

ps, If ya'll think this is bad, wait till I starts ta buggin ya 'bout exhaust!

Lsufan78- don't see it happening, .......
Dude,
I'm sure you're right about this. It's just a dream. I’m here for the knowledge of the forum.
I'm thinking it's gonna definitely require at a minimum, all new shocks and new front coils.
But I'm willing to invest in the added ability/strength of upgraded components.
Somewhere in the $1200 - $1400 would be my limit before I reconsider the 35’s.
I called the distributor near me for the Dirt Grips (cquestad is also interested in them) and got a price of $1350 and change, not mounted.
The owner (I believe) Rob, was great, very nice to deal with. But I've seen them cheaper online.
So, the search is on, but I figure I still have some time before I need them, which puts me in a better position.
I can remember buying a set of BFG's in 2000 and they were 250 each, and of course I bought 5, so it’s all relative.

Viking, I rotated my tires and the DW has gone away! I still need new ones, but they will fire for now!! The fronts were just Wall-er--d out!! ANyway, the spacers are holding up fine, and after more miles, the ride is very un noticable. I can tell, a tiny bit, but thats just me. I dont think its enought rougher of a ride to complain about, and Im pretty picky!! GO WITH THE HBS, AND 5100'S, YOU'LL BE FINE!

About 1200 smackers delevered from NTW. They will go replace my BFG MT 37's before hunting season. I have no idea why I feel like trying something new...since my BFG's still have 5/8" of tread left after 60k!
Anymore opinions...first hand with the PJ's?

the trXus sts are ok for off road but onroad there pretty bad..a friend of mine has theme on a branco and it took him 4-5 trips to the tire shop b4 he got them balenced right and the only last like 15k miles...i went with the trXus MTs...they ride nicer and are a little bit better in the rain.

I had 37's on my SuperDuty. They were great for about the first 10K or so, then I could not keep them balanced. I ended up getting two new tires and sold the truck. Now I have a Dodge.

Yea,
The trXus STS look way cool, but they look to me like they would have
a lateral grip problem compared to normal looking tires. The MT's though
look awesome and I've seen them in person. They were my first choice
before I saw the PJ's DG's, which look like they have more sypes. I hope
I get to read more opinions about wear and durability, and especially
traction in the snow and rain before I make the move.
For me, I want deep open lugs and a lot of sypes, a high load range
and serious sidewall protection. Not because I go off-road to rock climb
or mud bog. But because the weather in Maryland is stupid!
From 12+ inches of rain (this past weekend) to 2 feet of snow in the winter.
If I have capable tires and never need them that's perfectly ok with me.
But if I don't have them and need them then the Fruitman is not a happy camper.

Hope you all had a great 4th!
Well, the fix is in! I honestly started to sell myself on some modest
315's. Cost, trouble, mpg, etc. Then I saw a Furd with 37's.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, size does matter!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
I have to admit, it was a nice rig.
Resevoir shocks on all fours and 37" BFG's.
Looked like at least a 6" lift kit, maybe more.
And while the little kid in me kicks and screams
to ride in (let alone own) a "monster truck", the
adult in me asks "why not spend that money on
other more important things?".
I should be spending more time comparing decent
guages to monitor the vital signs or switching over
to all synthetic lubes, etc. Tires should be last on
my list.
Guess I'm just too much of an American! Why else
would you need to drive to the local Dairy Queen in
a 8k lb + vehicle that would not hesitate to roll over
most of the other vehicles on the lot?
It's the USA way.
