I am looking at getting rid of the stock nerf/steps/whatever that came with the truck, and I am looking into the Amp Research power steps. Is anyone using these? Like em, or hate em, or just OK? Anyone in a cold climate have any problems with them getting frozen in the up position? Or with dirt and mud caking on and being a problem? Any info is great thanx!!

Also, what about install? If I do go that route is it something you can do, or is it better to have a shop install?

I have had no problems at all with mine in extreme cold. It is about a 2.5 hour install. Very easy to do.

 

They are excellent steps. The only hard part about the install is soldering the wires in behind the dash. Haven't had any problems with them.

i have had them on since new. First thing I bought.

the new ones have a option for a lighted step, that would be cool.

and it is true, chicks do dig them, that and the heated seats.

When we were in Colorado, I did have one that must have gotten some ice or something in the arms because it didn't retract all the way. It didn't upset me enough to bend over and actually look and it went right back to normal operation when it melted.

Install wasn't very difficult either.

 

have any leads on who sells them the cheapest? I've seen 1240 $ inc. shipping? Got any idea where to buy them cheaper than that?

is there any kind of option to turn them off from inside the cab?? i.e. u'r stuck in a mud hole or on a rock etc... and you don't want them opening when you open the door??

Good question...never thought of that. Could you put a switch on during the install?

 

They have sensors that stop them as soon as they get resistance. So if your on a rock and open the door, they stop as soon as they hit the rock. No damage. And you can open the door, stand on them, then shut the door and they stay open, which is nice for when you want to wash your truck. I dont own a set but this is what ive been told.

 

you could rig something up, but there is no need.

like people have said, they are pretty smart steps. They stop with very little effort, up or down.
