Rigid Roll-Top Bed Covers
What experiences have you guys had with roll-top bed covers? I am looking at the Pace Edwards. They have a model with a built in tool box that looks good but it is quite pricey. The roll-top alone is $850 at Ultimate Dodge. Are these covers wirth the $$?

I have a Roll N Lock and love it. It works great and I have had no trouble with it so far. I have no experience with Pace Edwards so can not comment on them. Price sounds about right for what I was quoted when I was looking. I paid $900 installed for mine.

The owner of the truck acc. shop where I got my items talked me out of a Jack Rabbit . He said they were a pile of poo ! He said he has had alot of problems out of them . It is nice to have found someone who is honest and does not just want your $ .

I bought a used 2000 GMC z71 a few years ago with one on it. I have no idea what brand it was but I hated it. It had a bread box type of aluminume backing. It would squeke (sp) real bad. If you had the radio off or the windows down thats all you could hear. I left it rolled up most of the time. Then the first chance I got I sold it.

I have the Roll 'n Lock on mine. I installed it right before X-mas last year, and broke it in on a trip to Montana in -30 weather. Even in those temps it operated flawlessly. I dont feel that they are as water tight as the soft tonnue's are - I get leaking at the rear corners and a little at the front. Another drawback could be that the support rails extend into the bed by about 1 1/2 inches. I think there is significant risk of damage to the rails if your not careful when loading big items, and you loose the inner edge of the bed rail to secure tie downs to. I do like the fact that mine (and I think the one you are looking at) locks in different posiitions. It makes it nice to be able to cover some of the bed while towing my 5'er. All things considered, I dont have buyers remorse over paying 750 for it, but I would probably spend that money on a TST box now, and just throw a tarp in the back!

I like mine, had it for nearly 6 months,no problems, looks better than an empty box,and it hides stuff out of view from prying eyes. It's really versitile for hauling all sorts of stuff in your bed without having to remove it(like the Low Rider style) but to each his own, there is a pic in my gallery.Cheers,Mark.
