depends on the alarm... some you need to open up the key and take the chip out and they ziptie it to the key switch...there are also some alarms that offer a seperate module that imitates the code so you dont ahve to open up the key. Either way, all alarms can be made to work with the chipped keys.

You honest best bet is to just go to an alarm shop and check out the features and talk to the installers. google DEI...they make python, viper and clifford. Clifford is the high end of their line.

I had a compustar on my Mustang. Only downside is the remote size and the delay. Its got hella range though, I could start my car from a block away. I personally have had a python and a compustar and friends with all sorts of stuff inbetween. DEI almost always wins

I've heard great things about the Viper 791xv.... I'm planning on putting it in my truck. It seems to be about the best alarm system you can buy, with tons of add on modules. I believe it even has a turbo cool down timer!

I had a Viper791vx on my 04.5 and it was great. Remote range isnt the BEST but it was pretty good. It did have a turbo timer on it and the feature to leave it runnin for a short stop.

How do these aftermarket remote starters deal with the 3rd gens not having a "wait to start" wire? The light on the dash is controlled by the vehicle data bus, so there isn't just a wire you can tap into. Do they interface with the ECU? I would be interested to know, because I have an alarm/remote start on the way but was going to wire my own WTS wire from the guage cluster.

We opened up the gauge cluster on mine and soldered to the light... dunno how everyone else is doing it.

Most of the have a programmable diesel mode built into them, when there are in diesel mode they will wait for a pre-determined amount of time(programmable) before the will start.

DEI is great, Viper is considered their flagship line but except for the appearance of the remotes they are all pretty much the same system.

The 791 is nice but the range on the DEI 2 way systems is poor, you can get the same system without the 2 way feature for less money and you'll get alot more range with the same features.
