Ready for some injectors

Well I took a trip to the river this weekend, it was great fun. Towing back coming over the mountains on I8, there is a long 6% grade. I had to shift to 2nd and drive 40mph, my EGT were still at 1200 or so steady. Also there was a slight ticking that would go away if I turned off my Xillaraider. I am guessing this was one of the injectors acting up under the increased pressure of the Xillaraider. So I think it is time to replace them.

I searched the forums for a thread called "best price for DonM injector" and other variations. I remember this post from no to long ago, but I could come up with nothing. Also google searches did not come up with much on DonM.

Any one got a good link to their products, I see he is an advertiser here in DTR, but I can’t find his add either.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

High hp injectors will increase EGT's as mine went up 200 degree you will have to match a aftermarket turbo to supply more air to cool things down. I myself are in on purchase of a new turbo now.

More fuel will move that truck better but get hotter faster and alot of unburnt fuel.

I am mainly getting them for reliability issues. I have no idea what the previous owner had in terms of boxes, and now I have a tick when I have my box on and I pull my trailer. So I want to replace the injectors to make sure everything is running well. All my upgrades have been for reliability so far. (Except the Xillaraider) I wanted to do the trany next, but now I have the tick under load, and that worries me. I have 4 more trips planed and booked for the next 2 months, and I don’t want to have any issues on the road.

Are you suggesting I go with stock injectors?

Could the tick under load be some thing else?

Thanks for the help.

Cheff - If you do a search on the xzillaraider - you will find a lot of folks have this noise, as well as those that have the tst. The noise you're hearing, which will be more apparent under load/accel, and when it's really cold out, is timing advance. It's hard to be 100% sure about it since we can't all hear your truck, but most likely that's what it is. I know it alarmed me a bit at first. How is your power and mpg? If those are there, then most likely you don't have a bad injector.

For the record - don m's injectors are called FLUX injectors, and search for that. Several DTT dealers also carry them, like Timinva or Olee Poole.

Hope this helps

DonM's injectors use the one you have now and put different nozzles in them. if you have a bad injector then you have to replace it prior to sending them to DonM. He doesn't sell complete injectors that I know of. that is why I haven't done them yet.

My MPG are shot, I got 10.5mpg coming back from Parker. That is horrible; I was getting 13 pulling before. I had not noticed the ticking before the trip back from the river. Hopefully lightman is right and this is just the timing advance and they will hold up for the next few weeks. I go to KQ ranch in Julian this weekend, and a week in Mammoth next week.

Thanks for all the help, I have found the injectors and am ordering the mach 1.5. Hopefully this will give me the extra humph in combination with the Xlillaraider to go 55 up the 6% grade.

I will let you all know how it goes... Thanks again.

That is not at all what they say on their website. They specifically say that their injectors are not reworked bosch injectors. Here is exactly what they say

F1 Diesel using CFD and dyno testing has developed EDM injectors that produce more horsepower and torque than a conventional injector from Bosch. By machining our own spray holes on a blank nozzle we are able to achieve additional fuel flow with increased atomization. Our injectors are not modified Bosch nozzles. They are constructed of a special alloy steel and heat treated using special methods to provide increased long term durability that rivals nozzles from Bosch.

Cheff if your mpg is down on average, something may be wrong. It's exciting you've decided to get the injectors anyway...please let us know how you like them!

What could be another reason for MPG to be going down? Everything else seems to be working well and my MPG where up since the Xillaraider install. Only thing I can think of is the injectors. Or maybe I need a valve adjustment, who knows if the previous owner ever did one. Boost # are good, could it be it is just that the long steep hill killed my mileage?

Thanks for the boost in confidence; I figure I can not go wrong getting new injectors anyway. Every bit helps with power and reliability. Now if I could convince the wife to let me spend 4k on a new trany

Have you changed your fuel and air filters recently? - I know that sounds basic - and no offense intended.
