Question about if I have a Performance Mod
Hello all,
I just bought an '07 2500 5.9 6-Speed 2wd and getting really good mileage. I am above a quarter of a tank and have 509 miles on the odo. This truck has a 5 inch exhaust from cat back and nothing else that I can see. I bought a Edge Mileage Max that I have had before but haven't intstalled it yet. Anyway my question is .... Is there anyway I can tell if it ever had a chip or module on it or does it have an EXISTING computer mod that would cause it to get great mileage. I guess what I am saying that I am ignorant to some of the modules that are out there.[duhhh] Do some of the modules hook up to the diagnostics port and then you chose your programing and then unplug and it stays until you change it? Any enlightment would be appreciated. Thanks |
Yes, programmers do just that. Plugs into the OBD port and updates the ECM, and remove after updating. There's isn't a easy way to tell if you have a programmer without having to make a trip to the dealer. You can try finding someone locally with a Smarty and update the ECM. If it won't update most likely it has a aftermarket program already installed.
If you're getting great fuel economy (by hand calculating) I wouldn't touch a thing. MikeyB |
Thanks for the info Mikey. Appreciate it.
