Pics: Exterior Block Heater Plug Install

I didnt' like how the dealer installed the cord for the block heater, so I decided to make it a bit more accessable. I bought the exterior plug from West Marine, and I couldn't find a place up front that I wanted to mount it, so . . . . I went to the back of the truck  . It's just as easy for me to plug into the back as the front . . . .half the time I back into my parking spaces anyway. Just thought I would share the pics in case anyone else is interested.

Nice! I have been wanting to do this for mine but there are no good spots to mount the plug up front on my 06.[verymad]

Looks good. I just put the marinco plug on my 05 last night.

I made a small bracket that uses two of the tow hook bolts. It was pretty tough getting the bolts out because the nuts on the backside are blocked by the intercooler. I can send dimensions for the bracket if anyone is interested.

I bought mine at Boaters World near my house.

mtedwards, looks good. That is a good place to put it. I would have liked to put mine there, but I have the Bodiak hitch there for my winch, so it won't work.

Looks Awesome. How did you run the block heater cord to the rear? Did you just run an extension cord along the frame rails or something fancy?

I prefer the rear mount - I think it looks slick and I'm almost always backed into my spot. Nice job!

It was pretty simple. I have running boards, and was able to run a 14ga (15amp) extension cord along the mounts, and then along the frame under the bed to the back. I bought a 25ft cord from Home Depot and had a few feet left over. I put the cord in that plastic tubing to protect it and zip tied it to the truck. With the plug I bought, you drill a 1 7/8" hole, hook up the three wires, and you're done. Looks like it was there from the factory given that the 7 pin plug is on the other side of the licence plate. [guitar]

Yup, I actually just installed that exact plug on the front of mine. I had to cut it though to make it fit. I'll try and remember to take a picture tomorrow in the daylight.

The "WigiDigit Block Heater Plug" includes the Marinco Connector and the bracket (One bumper bolt to attach). It mounts next to one of your front tow hooks. No holes to drill just use existing one. Good looking and took <10 minutes to install. www.genosgarage.com. or Pg. 17 of the Fall 2006 Catalog. I paid $34.95 for mine.

Yep, I should have mentioned that. That was the idea behind mine, but I'm cheap and have access to fab equipment.
