performance exhaust- any real gains??-prove it

I already have the Edge (100HP max) with monitor. modified my airbox. I want to do the exhaust next but i want to know if anyone witha modded truck has actually done any before and after results with dyno or quarter mile testing to prove that it works. The factory muffler is as big as a 55 gallon drum and the kitty is 4" diameter. I have to think that they are pretty free flowing but tell me I'm wrong. I dont want to pay for an MBRP muffler JUST for the extra noise, i want to know that it's really worth it. thanx for any response, DAVE

The stock muffler is very restrictive from what I`ve read. I`ve been researching this myself, and I`ve come to the conclusion that replacing the muffler only will net you just about the same gains/EGT reductions as a full exhaust up to about 450 rwhp.

lower egt's the only real perfomance gain is faster spool which is more power at lower rpm. not more power overall, just at less rpm.

appreciate the comments guys but they are not proven results, only 3 comments so far and they are all different thats why I want 1/4 mile or dyno proof.
Don't worry i have no intentions of running straight exhaust on this truck, like my last one.. I rather enjoy listening to my Sattelite radio.:-), DAVE

on my 05,i left the convertor on and took off the muffler...no performance gain i could tell at all.if anything, kinda had the feeling that it lost some grunt on bottem.but,,i check mileage every tank, towing or not,and it consistently gained 1 mpg.with that said,i put the muffler back on because i couldnt hear my stereo at all towing with the drone it had.and the bottem end grunt came back......im in the process of playing with a 51 nelson muffler and see if i can get the 1 mpg back without the dreaded drone....if it costs 100 bucks, you should earn your money back in about 6 months.........bama

Dyno gains dont mean a thing when your truck is running 100-200 degrees cooler. I have Satellite radio just as you do and with no muffler or kitty volume 15 is almost overkill.

There was a pic somewhere(this site maybe???) of the stock muffler cut open. Not very pretty at all. I plan on cutting mine out soon

I've never seen any really large gains from exhaust, usually a couple to maybe ten, sometimes they even lose power on stock trucks. BUT, as said above, they do help with EGT and that alone is worth the cost.

strokethisctd,
so with no other mods other than a crazy larry set only on 90 HP, and a straight pipe, @ 5000 ft.Elev. you ran a 15.08?? I must have something tied to the back of mine thats invisible cause down here at Sea level I can't get near that even with my Edge set on 100HP. There must be something(HP) to that missing muffler and kitty!!! I ocasionally tow which makes the drone worse and there is just no way anyone is getting me to believe that there is no drone in the cab with no exhaust. I had straight pipe on the 95 and it was terrible in the cab at 65-75 MPH. I have been reading exhaust forums for months and hear the guys complain about almost every muffler or missing muffler short of the MBRP or Nelson 5". DAVE
