Ok,Ok,...I give up on Toyo Mt's...need tire ideas.
 

I did have a job where I pulled 2 different trailers and I need the "e" rating for one of the loads I pulled regularly. The last 12 mos I have had neither job but have still been putting miles on my truck and realized something. My toyo's are wearing like they did with big loads without big loads . I put 20k on a fresh set of 4 and they were done. I got 2 new ones put em on the front took the best 2 of the orig 4 and put them on the back. The new ones on the front have about 12k on them and they were done. I know about alignment issue and about how scrubbing will wear out your tires prematurely but trust me the pressure, alignment, and rotation has been monitored and done since the first 4 were new. I was talking to BOSSHOGG the other day as I havn't seen him in a while (new baby) and he noticed it. He has the exact same suspension mods as me and we got our first 4 toyos within weeks of each other. He said his tires were toast too. I guess my ? is what tire is next. I want a 35/315 and would really like an "E" rating. Also a quick note. The rears wore out on the first set like the fronts so alignment was not the issue. We both had XLR8TR do our alignments and then I have had my alignment done 2 times since...Thanks

The Toyos are a soft compound tire and do not fair that well with the weight of the Cummins OR Hauling Heavy..... BFG's are a harder compound and will last. The TA/KOs are great with mild off-road and awesome in the sand. Stay away from the PRO-Comp AT's as they wear horrible also. The BFG's in my expereince have been the best for towing and longer wear. I have Nitto Terra Grapplers on my 1500 RAM and I would not even think about putting them on a 2500 or 3500. To soft! If you stay ON ROAD all the time the Standard BFG's and Mischelins are good. Nitto did just come out with a tire made just for HD Trucks that would work for you also.

Thanks for the reply. I have had probably 10 sets of BFG AT's and the newer AT KO's on 4 ctd in the last 15 years. I really like them but they worry me with a load. I know they make the K/) in and "e" rating for a 16" wheel but not for 17" yet. Does the new Nitto come in 35" and is it made of a harder rubber? Thanks again.

Look at the Dura Grapplers ..... 285/70/17 at 3500lbs weight rated a tire ..... 285/75/17 at 3900 rated a tire...

Your size tire will always have a compromise with weight rating...... and tire wear. The 285 Tire fills the wheel wells up good enough on a 2500 even with a leveling kit.

I would have to disagree, I got over 45,000 on my first set of Nitto TG's...

18k with nittos NEVER EVER EVER again!!!

I'm ready for a new set of tires and almost bought the Nittos. From the research I have done, most of the nittos are done in 20K miles. A few like AkitaSumo get lucky and get some decent mileage out of them. For me, too much $$ to take a chance and only get 20k miles out of a set.

im running hankook dynapro mt's load range E and theyve been pretty good. I haul pretty often too

I have read alot of guys talking about how great the Toyo M/T were. I think you are the first one that I have read so far to get bad miles out of them.

Have you thought about 19.5's and 14 ply tires?

I will say I am a little critical for aesthetic reasons of how mud tires wear. That said the guys that have been getting 40k plus miles on their Toyo's that I've seen are effectively running slicks. The good/bad thing about the Toyos is that you can run the lugs all the way down and have a super thick slick that can take 10k plus more miles. My experience with BFG's is that all though they don't perform great off road and they will not clean in mud, they stay looking good well into 40k. I guess I want my cake and blah blah blah[dummy]...I am going to check out the New HD Nitto...anybody know when and if BFG will roll out the 315 "E" in for a 17" wheel?

E rated 315-75-17's
 

Bridgestone/Firestone has 315-70-17's out in an E rating. Both have a 3200# rating. Either one should deliver long life. Slightly shorter and a good 1"+ narrower. They are 30# lighter also.

I'm picking up the Firestone Destination AT in a 315/70/17 Load Range E in the next couple of weeks.. I'll let you know how they are....

Have you looked at the interco the make swamper. I have the truxus they are "E" rate come in 35" are great in all around and very little road noise for the mudders.
