non wastegated turbo a good idea?

hope you guys can help me out here. Would a non wastegated turbo be a good idea for my rig? Is there after market wastegate that could be used in conjuction with an non wastegated turbo like an external wastegate? wonder what kinda of boost i would see with a 60/14 non wastegated turbo with the mods i have now?

The only con is if it isn't designed well enough for your application and it wants to overboost. If it's not a tried and true application for our trucks, you're just going to have to put it on and see how much boost you get.

1.On a stock turbo does the wastegate open after letting off hard acceleration?

2.How would the non wastegated turbo release the pressure after WOT?

3.The turbo that i'm looking at is a 14 cm housing so i'm thinking with my set up i'd would have more fuel to over boost the turbo with a 60mm inlet and the 14cm housing right?

You're confusing the wastegate with a blow off valve. The wastegate has nothing to do with relieving boost pressure as a blow off valve does. It has nothing to do with letting off at WOT. What it releases is exhaust. Exhaust being forced into the "drive wheel" of a turbo is what spins the turbo. A wastegate is, simply put, a bypass so that at a certain level of boost it opens and allows some of the exhaust gasses to exit through the exhaust without passing over the turbo wheel - thus controlling boost.

I think that turbo is way too small to run un-gated. An A5K can be run un-gated because of it's larger size.

The wastegate on my HTB2 62/12 was opening prematurely so I put a clamp on the wastegate hose and it never went above 45psi even with the Predator on the Extreme RKL tune making 450hp. I guess it all depends on how much fuel you are giving it.....

How large is the exhaust housing of an hx40? That's all that matters. It doesn't have anything to do with the compressor wheel. The A3k is also ungated and it only has a 57mm inducer on the compressor wheel.

I've heard that the hx40 has a very weak shaft that likes to snap.

He said it was a 60/14 so I'm assuming the exhaust housing is 14cm. It does have to do with the compressor wheel too. A larger compressor wheel is going to give more boost. His amount of fueling will probably overspeed a 60mm wheel in a 14cm housing. Maybe not, but my old '93 had much less power/fuel than him and it would spin an un-gated 62/14 way out of it's map.

i'm starting to think twice about this turbo because my auto shitfs way hard into 4 sometimes barking the trubo, i really have to watch my foot especially going up a steeper grade. Is there any chance that this turbo will hold up in my truck? The last time i dynoed my truck it dynoed 400/1002 but that was before this new bully dog 2.4.1 and quad race on 1, do you all honestly think that this turbo has a chance to live for a year or to until i save for twins?
