"no bus"

Truck has been running great. Smarty Jr on #2. Started it first thing this morning, it started fine, ran in the house to get the kids, went back out and the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and the odometer display says "no bus". Turned truck off to reset, now it won't even turn over. Have not changed programs for 2+ weeks. I also noticed when I push the button on the remote to lock the doors the horn does not honk. It will lock and unlock the doors, but it does not honk. Truck is an 06 with 38K miles.

I tried hooking Smarty Jr up to read codes and it will not communicate with the truck, it just keeps saying "Turn truck on and press >" I do that then it says "Turn truck off and press >". It just repeats this cycle.

I have the Quadzilla Commander installed for gauges, but do not have the quad box installed any longer ( and haven't for a year or so.)

I talked to Bob Wagner earlier and he is going to talk to Marco in the morning. I don't think this is a Smarty issue, but thought they may have some ides to help me out.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

More Info.

I just did the self test for the Instrument Cluster by pressing in the odom button and turning the key on. It seamed to work fine. When it was cycling through, it flashed the following numbers on the odom display: S 127, 285 and C 447. I don't believe these are fault codes but also don't know what they would be.

The instrument cluster lights will not turn off when the key is turned off (still on after 20 minutes.)
The head lights turn on when the key is turned on and the headlight switch is off.
When the key is off, the head lights will not turn on when the headlight switch is turned on.

Still will not turn over.

Is this likely to be covered by the 100K waranty? I am at 38K miles.

Thanks for any help you may suggest.

not sure about the S code but, the C codes are from the ABS system. Sounds like you may have a bad TIPM and as long as the dealer doesn't figure out you've had a programmer, it should be covered. Bob is pretty good about getting these things fixed to avoid the dealer though... good luck !

Have you tried disconnnecting the batteries and leaving them disconnected for awhile? Not sure about these OPDII systems (clearing codes, resetting computer, etc.), but it won't hurt anything to at least try.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Hello all,

I heard back from Bob this morning and he told me to try removing and disconnecting all ten connectors from the back of the TIPM (Fuse box under the hood). Leave the battery cable attached to the TIPM. Wait for a few minutes, I waited about 5 minutes. Then hook everything back up. I did this and everything is back to normal.

Hopefully this works for a good long time and I will not have to be doing this very often. One of the larger connectors did feel more loose than the others, so maybe it was a bad connection on that one.

I owe a HUGE THANK YOU to Bob at Wagner & Associates. What great customer service even when it was nothing to do with a product I had purchased from him.

Does anyone know of a permanent fix to this problem? This happened again last week when I was up in the mountains Elk hunting. Fortunately I did this repair and it worked fine, but it is not a good feeling being 30 miles from a paved road, and another 30 miles to a small town. Not to mention the look my father-in-law (Chevy driver, not a Dodge fan at all) was giving me when I told him I was having troubles with my truck.

Does this mean I have some sort of sensor that is going bad and causing a circuit in the TIPM to trip?

Bob,
I sure thought of you and Marco when I was up in the hills with my TIPM disconnected and wires laying everywhere.
Thanks again.
Nathan

I want to shoot this back up. Thank you Bob and OR Mega cab for posting it.
This thread just pulled my boss man's butt out of the fire 2 weeks ago.
He calls me early in the morning Saturday, and says all the gauges say 0 and the dash looks like a christmas tree. All the idiot lights are lit. In the speedo is says NO BUS.

I searched the forum for awhile and found this thread. I called and told him to unplug all ten connectors on the back of the TIPM and wait 5 min and hook back up.

He calls back " WE GOT FIRE" AWESOME!!!!!!!
