New Turbo Installed!
 

Installed the KILLER B-2 today. Took about 3.5 hours. Not really -that- bad, although I wouldn't sign up for two in a day[laugh] The turbo bolts are the biggest pain.

The compressor size initially scared me. It is MUCH larger than the Super B. In all honesty, the spool is a little different, but not much more lag than the Super B.

There seems to be two definitions of spool: One that says anything over 0 psi is spool, and the other that says psi plus fuel is real spool. This is more noticable with this turbo. In other words: you can show 20 and things are ok, but that same 20 with fuel will be MUCH different. I suppose the larger compressors are providing a big gulp of air.

While I have not really hit this turbo, I can feel something lurking there. It is not as responsive as my Super B in general, but I feel there is a real surprise if you mash the pedal. Cruising temps may be a pinch higher. Not sure yet in 25 miles.

Break-in: I would really appreciate any recommendations here.

When I bought my Silver Bullet fron II, I had the same concern about break-in.

Brady (II) told me to start the truck and let it get warm, let it idle for about 20-30 min. Then while still in park throttle up several times to 1,500-1800 rpm's. Do that several times for about 5 min. Then take it out let the boost build to 15-20 lbs of boost a couple of times and thats it.

So thats what I did.

He also said that the initial start up was the most crucial because of getting oil pressure to the turbo, he had me crank the truck several times without starting it.

Thanks man. Thats about 99 percent of what I did. Just common sense with a brand new bearing I suppose. The sound changed noticeably in the first few miles. At first the turbo seemed 'tight'. Now you can hear it like before. I am itching to lay into this thing a little.[guitar] Seems the compressor sound will be even louder than before, which was not quiet. This is good.

Dude, that thing is huge. You are going to have to buy an add-a-leaf for the front right spring of your truck.

Not all turbo shops just say lay the hammer down.

I am also one of those people who does not agree with a 1 minute break-in!

Go easy on it for the first 100 miles or 200 miles. I always break-in by going for an hour drive or so.

Some say there is no break in on turbo's.....But once a turbo is broke-in it will usually spool faster and this tells me that the parts are working together easier.

Yeah, it's heavier too. You will just about strain your huevos holding it to get that first bolt in.:eek:

I appreciate that. I was looking for your advice. Of course, this new turbo is partially your fault.[laugh] Do you think this is a Cummins approved upgrade?? Don't know how you fit an Aurora 5K in there. Forget it.

I idled for at least 25 +min. and then drove lightly for about another 25 min. and idled again. Truck now sits in garage. I'll take a nice ride tomorrow.
