Hey whats going on guys, just want to introduce my self. My name's Jay. I am entirely new to diesel, and trucks, and to american vehicles in general. LOL I have had countless vw's, and then i was having fun with a subaru wrx sti for awhile, and now i am getting into road racing, so i needed a tow vehicle. So I purchased an 03 2500 ctd 4x4. its an auto, with the 47re ( i think thats the code). and it that means i have the SO motor. so what can i do to this thing to make it better for towing, and get some pretty good power when i'm daily driving it. I got smoked by a newer duramax today from a light . What mods should i start with. I know exhaust and intake, i havent seen a 5" exhaust for the SO. Also , i keep seeing people talk about the tst box, is that the way to go? thanks for any suggestions comments you can give me.

 

hey jay welcome aboard,first add some guages egt,tranny temp,fuel press and if you want boost,then do your intake and exhaust,4 inch.The tst is a great box but can be tough on the tranny and lacks on the bottom end unless you stack a press. box with it.If you want just a nice hotrod box good for towing and reasonably priced look at the quad boxes.There are quite a few boxes out there just search through the messages here and you will find all the info.you want.

 

search search and search this board. alot of people started in your position. These boards will give you all the info on your truck you will ever need. DO NOT just go out and buy the things you see on TV or what a magazine says. before you buy anything, make sure you understand what it does...also make use of common sense on some products. If you are still stumped, do a search on these boards, and you will get your answer.

Welcome, due a search on your trans, you will soon find out that the 47re is the weak point in your truck. So before I added power mods I would upgrade the trans. Just due a search and you will have hrs of reading on your hands. Congrats on the new truck...
