new injectors and bad white haze at idle
new injectors and bad white haze at idle
I just got my 70hp injectors installed from JL Machine. I had all of them checked (electronics and tips) before modifying and I needed 2 new tips that I had replaced. Should this hp injector have such a steady stream of white/gray smoke at an idle? Seems to go away mostly when driving steady around 50mph. And it sure dumps some black when I get in it. Has awesome power. And now that it has ran for about 30 minutes and driven about 10 miles it seems to have a "shake" or miss at idle. Is there something I can check for leaks at possible connecter tube to inj.? Maybe I am freaking out over nothing. I am pretty sure I did everything correctly, and clean. Any thoughts are welcome..

Looks like you have one that is sticking open, at least partially. See if you can identify which one by disabling one at a time until the noise doesn't change, but the white smoke stops... then send that one back for repair.
How do I kill each one individually? It seemed to idle smooth when I first started it but it has progressively gotten rough and I can even hear a stumble thru the exhaust. Sounds kinda like a v-8 gas motor with a bad plug wire. And it shakes at an idle now, pretty rough. I have a factory Dodge service manual and it shows how to test for injector kill but they use the OBD-III that only the factory has. Anyone know the "hillbilly" way?
Oil level is good and no fuel smell. I just talked to Tim Barber and he asked DonM what it could be and Don said it sounds like a stuck or sticking Pintle, the part that slides up and down to open and close the injector. That sucks cause I had spent $180 bucks just to have these injectors tested. I was a little skeptical knowing they were not tested AFTER the new tips were installed, only before. Ahh well- live and learn. But it sure is a job and my stomach feels like a horse kicked me from laying over my radiator for 6 hours to change them. So to anyone out there if you don't get DonM's that are checked thoughly pay what ever they want to verify they are good after the new tips are installed. Its gonna be a couple days before I could even think of laying over that radiator again.
Lift one wire off of each injector and see which one causes the least change. The ones that are working properly will cause a very noticable change.Been there done all this before. You can leave the rocker cover off and crank the truck after a wire is removed. As long as you don't let it run too long or rev the motor the mess(oil splatter) will be very minimal. If you figure out the problem inj. you might be able to take the tip off and see if you can clean it with some WD-40 or something.

I checked each exhaust port temp with a digital temp gun and all were 134-135 degrees except for #1, it was 147 degrees. I then took off cover and did took off one wire at a time to kill cylinders. The only one that made it smoke less was #6. But it still smoked about half as much. While that one was off I took off remaining cylinders one at a time and nothing cleared up the smoke. I am going to take them back out 2maro and send back to John Link at JL Machine. The smoke does seem to clear up when driving steady around 45-50mph and the power is awesome. I am going to get ahold of John Link in the a.m and see if I should put these tips onto my stock injectors and try it. This is a core set I bought and had tested and modified.
anyone have a link to instructions on how to change tips out? I looked at DDP's website and they have a link but it does not work for me, I cannot open the file or view it.
