straight pipe wouldnt be bad, or a free-flow muffler. i had a free-flow system on and the drone got unbearable so i switched to a muffler with a baffle (51" donaldson) and quieted her down. now im going back to the free-flow. i miss that obnoxious diesel sound.

I dont think it is unbearable. I know it is a lot more of a drone in the back seat, but in the drivers seat, the drone isnt bad, in my perspective, and I do a lot of highway driving. It just depends on your preferences, but from the sounds of it, you will love the straight pipe.

You could always add a muffler if it is too much for you.

I have the banks monster exhaust...catback. And it gets alittle loud in the cab sometimes, and it is considered a quite system. But maybe I am really sensitive...don't know.

This is a good point, you could always start with a straight pipe then add a muffler if you wanted to, better than starting out with a muffler then removing it later

... and if you go that route look for a striaght pipe with the offsets close together, unlike th one Geno's sells. That way you'll be able to use the straight pipe with the new straight through muffler.

The stock muffler (at least on my 06) is off set at the muffler, if the delete pipe is off set your straight through muffler will line up with the tail pipe...

I'm not making sense am I?

Do a search on silencer ring, it comes out very easily and you'll get more whistle with a free flowing intake.

I really want my truck to make people turn their heads when i drive by.
Kinda miss that from my last truck (last truck wasnt extremely loud, but it was pretty sharp looking).

And the Silencer Ring is that easy to take off? Never really done any engine mods so i really don't want to screw up the turbo trying to take out the silencer ring...
Listen, If you want it loud and dont mind having to turn the radio up a little, Get a 5" straight with 6" tip. People may say get a muffler but you said "I want it louder than my neighbors". If you're worried about Drone, just travel at a different speed. At first it's loud but after a day, U say man how did I go without this. If you're going for "good" sound, get a 5" with a muffler. If you want LOUD and Good sounding, get a straight 5" just do it and get it over with so you can move to an intake.

I think i will be going with a 5" straight pipe with a 6" tip.

For you guys that have the 5" straight pipe, how much louder is it than your stock exhaust was? (I've made up my mind on this, i just want to have an idea of what it will sound like since it will be a couple of weeks before i get this done - I've seen the vids on youtube for this, but they really dont let you hear what they are like)

Thanks for all your help guys, and for being patient with me.

It's about the same ratio as going from my stock horn to my 150db train horns.. My girlfriend always gets really pizzed at me when I drop her off somewhere and then take off b/c I dont realize just how loud it is.

I love my strait pipe also. just cut the muffler off of it three days ago. sounds amazing. it only cost me 25 bucks for the pipe too. beats hundreds for the turboback systems

I am running a aeroturbine 4040 on my 06 and have been very impressed with it. Black Cloud Diesel offers some good packages that come with everything you need. Heavy accel you can really hear it, and it does not have that drone effect. Also I have noticed a little mileage increase on the highway.
