New to Diesels Lookin for Advice on Exhaust

I got my first Diesel in June

2003 Ram 2500 with 24 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel, QC Long Bed. Feels nice to be in this club. I have to say that upgrading from a 2000 Ram 1500 with a 3" body lift and 33's, it has quite a bit more power, and it was a good choice.

Anyway, it's practically all stock except for A different set of tires.

I was wondering, what would you guys suggest i do to get my Diesel to be loud? Straight Pipe it (Looking to maybe have it 5" throughout.) and lose the catalytic converter or just straight pipe it? From your experience, what mods can you do to your truck that will make it as loud as possible? Also, i wanted to get stacks for it, but putting holes in the bed of my truck is not something i want to do. What experiences have you guys had with stacks?

Thanks for all your help

Straight piping will obviously be the loudest. I dont think 03s had cats on them anyways.

a straight pipe will be loud and also be loud inside. if you run alot of miles I wouldnt do that. I run a 5" system with a muffler and I like it alot. has a deep tone but not annoying loud in the cab. stacks are awesome but they have their drawbacks

Do yourself (and your neighbors) a favor and leave it stock. You'll grow to hate the loud and (especially) the "drone" when you hit the hiway.

I love my MBRP kit. Nice deep tone. Gets loud at times but never to loud.

I love my straight pipe.

Do the 03's have Cats on them?

To answer a couple of these questions, I really dont run that many miles in it, maybe 150-200 in a week, which will probably only be for the next 2 years or so.

Also, i really want to get this as loud as possible, neighbors are kinda the same way, except they run duals on their gas engines. Plus, my one neighbor has a Duramax, and my brother has a Powerstroke. Kinda like one upping them.

I really just want something that is louder than everything else on the road.

What are all the drawbacks to having stacks?

Thanks again for your help.

04.5 was the first year that they started putting cats in them. I have a straight pipe, 4 inches from turbo back and I love it. The only time I find it too loud is when I am trying to sneak around late at night or early early am. Other than that, I love it. I know it pisses a lot of people off on the road, especially cars with their windows down who are driving next to my tail pipe, but its their fault for buying a car that sits that low to the ground! [laugh] I say get a muffler delete. If you decide it is too much, you can always add an aftermarket muffler. I also want stacks, but I dont want to cut my bed and lose even more bedspace ( I have a short bed), but I might do it anyways, cus stacks are BAD! Give the straight pipe a try if you want loud, or stacks if you dont mind cutting your bed.

Stacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol!!!

Yep, go with a fat stack. I've got the mprp, and it sounds great, but the way it exits out the back is total crap. Im sure I'll replace it with something better sometime in the future.

speak for yourself[laugh] I cant get enough of the 5" straight. I ride with the windows down just to hear it bounce off the trees or buildings. I love the "turning of the heads" act. Or making people start running to the bus stop because they think the bus is comming![laugh][laugh]

At the most I'd put in a 4" downpipe. Leave it stock otherwise.
