Need to update Smarty Sr. Any other way than winzip?

Got 3 new injectors put in the truck last week. One new one today. After the first three my smarty still worked. Today it says unknown software. Looks like I need to update my smarty. I went to mads page and tried downloading but says I need winzip. I am no computer guy. Any way to get around it. I am on vista right now. Truck is an 06 with the smarty pod. Hate to pay the 30 bucks for a program I will never use again and don't know how to use this time. I am pretty in the dark here. Help me out. Thanks.

My Vista had a zip unloader when I got it, you sure you cant open the file location and extract it??? Have you tried the 7-zip program or is that what you are talking about???

Possible. It looks like it is there but I have no idea how to use it. Looks like I need the smarty plugged in to extract it but I am at camp with no usb cable. I feel dumb enough to run for office.

You should be able to download the 7-zip application that is on the MADS website and it will be able to extract any ZIP file, even those created by Winzip. There shouldn't be any need to specifically have Winzip installed on your machine.

Well you need the usb cable to sync to the programmer, but not to get your file and extracted from a zip file. Try to find the zip file, right click it and see if something along the lines of "extract here" pops up. If so click that and you will have your needed file. It will turn a .zip file into a .smt file

Well after two hours of screwing around with this I have to quit. I got it into the file. Got the smarty to empty the memory and got stuck there. No idea from here. Think I have to go get a 12 year old to help me.

It is actually quite simple if you follow the directions step by step. Mads Electronics even has a video on their site showing you how to do it step by step. When all else fails...read the directions

Something us guys prefer not to do

I surrender. A guy has to know when to say when. Two computers. Both running vista. Did the downloads. Got the smarty to empty out and then nothing. How do you send it to the smarty or are the computers suppose to know? Probably best if I find a person with some computer knowledge and have them do it for me.

You have the driver program right??? The USB.exe? This is your sending portal. You open that up, then upper left corner click on "file" and open your saved file from is location. Once you select it, plug the smarty in via usb. then press send and you should see it begin with a time limit.

This is what you need to make the download. Have you downloaded this and if so are you using it?
