need help on deciding what kind of clutch to get
 
I'm in the need of a new clutch, and am not sure what to get. I've been looking at southbend and valair. I just don't know what kind of clutch would be best for me. I have a 2006 6 speed, its got a intake, straight pipe, and a bully dog programmer with crazy larry. I never have used the crazy larry tune, and am trying to figure out how I can download just one of the tunes around 110-120hp instead of it. For the most part its an everyday driver, but I do pull a cattle trailer and hay that probably weighs around atleast 15,000 lbs. I need a clutch that can handle towing decent size loads, will allow me to play around everyonce in a while, and can be driven somewhat comfortably (not one of those pulling clutches with a huge amount of pedal pressure) Got any suggestions?

What is your goal for final power numbers? That will let you know where you should be on a clutch. I'm looking for 600 hp one day so I have the SDD3250.

To be honest I don't know about where my current setup puts me at for hp. Any ideas would help? I would say there aren't too many more mods in my future, got a baby coming anyday, and this clutch will probably be the last of it. About the only things I could see myself doing in the next few years is trying other programmers like a smarty or H&S. So no major differences from what I have. I just want a setup that allows me to haul somewhat heavy loads, maintain somewhat driveability so my wife can drive if needed, and I can play around without having to worry about slipping the clutch.

I recently upgraded to a con-ofe. I can run my Smarty on #9 with no issues. Peddle pressure is about like stock. The only issue I've seen is it grabs a little, especially maneuvering a trailer.

I don't know a lot about clutches. what is the con-ofe?

I will be ordering the SB dual disc dual friction clutch. It is fairly new.

I installed a ssdd clutch a few weeks ago. Its BAD**S!!!! I've pulled my 8000lb camper, a gooseneck with a backhoe & skidloader on it, & a gooseneck with 22000lbs of steel on it & had NO problems. I highly recomend the southbend. My engine mods are in my sig...

My NV5600 is slower to shift with the 3250. I think the extra weight and mass takes longer to line up in the trans. It is grabby too. But it can't be beat for towing and putting power to the ground. Since I had it put in, I've never thought about it. No worrying about slipping it or heating it up. My truck used to rip the factory clutch loose in the top three gears. It did it once in 3rd and that was it. I was done babying it along. It is an aggressive clutch. It will wear on your flywheel like any clutch designed to hold this power rating.

All this was fine for me because I tow heavy for 50% of my driving. If I only towed once every tow weeks I'm not sure if I'd get this clutch. For that matter, I might not own a 6 speed. The autos are just easier to drive.

I'd call South Bend and talk to them. I did. They were pretty helpful. Ask what clutch will hold lightly modded power and be street able. I'm not sure you need a DD. A nice single might be ok for you.

I put the sbdd3250 dual friction in a few months ago and its been great. The pedal doesn't feel much heavier and its as smooth as stock on engagement. I haven't pulled anything real heavy. The heaviest i have was a 20ft trailer with a buick on it but i couldn't tell much difference from stock.

I would go with a valair clutch. The seem to be a lot quiter clutch. They make a great one that will hold more than the amount of power that you have and can with stand pulling heavy loads.

I just rebuilt my 6 speed on my 2003. I am just stock right now but the mechanic talked me into a Luk pro gold. It was so grabby it didn't even last me one trip hauling hay on my 40 ft trailer. I replaced it with a southbend dual disk street and it has been great so far! Finished hauling the hay the other clutch left stranded. I had to have a new hydraulic kit put in also for the southbend.

Another vote for Southbend! I put an OFE into my truck at 100K miles and I'm at 316K now with no signs of slippage, even with the increased power levels. 216,000 thousand miles on a clutch, especially in a fairly modifed truck, is impressive in my book. I would recommend upgrading your hydraulics at the same time.

I've never seen anything bad said about Southbend or their customer service, which is pretty impressive to me as well

I run the South bend 3250 in my truck & when Pulling its the cats a** with 17,000lbs behind me.. But for every day driving it takes a bit to get use to.. BUT i LOVE IT!!!!

I would like to have the South bend street dual disc, but I just worry that its a little too much clutch for what I need. Supposedly you can get to big of a clutch
