Need Help....
Recently upgraded my turbo and put 50HP tips on the truck in my sig and its running poorly to me. I have an awful rattle with any setting on my smarty i've tried and even with the truck set back to stock. If I increase the power levels on my programmer I get a really bad hesitating backfire/knock with a puff of white smoke usually at around 1700rpm and it sounds awful and scares me, so the lower the HP I ask for out of programmer the less harsh it acts. Like I said the rattle seems very harsh for only adding 50's. Truck only had slight rattle before when I usually ran setting 7 with timing (130HP) before the tips.
I smoke excessively even on the low settings and my turbo has only spiked to 35-36lbs and thats it and seems exceptionally laggy. I was having code trouble with the underboost/overboost problems so I bought a Quad Fooler because apparently my Smarty wasn't doing the fooling whatsoever. My mechanic had to leave my electronic turbo selenoid plugged it because he couldn't get the computer to jive with the mechanical after market charger.
My egts seem a lot higher than before. Crusing with stock charger i was just under 600 deg. and now it runs 700-800 consistently.
I've had this truck back to the dealership where these aftermarket parts were installed and they cant figure out anything. They sent my injectors away for flow tests and they came back 100%, tried a different ecm in it and still nothing and like I said i've tried every setting on my smarty from more timing to no extra timing and nothing changes. Can someone tell me if Im overreacting and this is just the way it is or should my truck be running smoother? Everywhere i've phoned to talk to people have told me thats just what happens.....i believe that backfire/stumbling business is not normal and would cost anybody drag racing at least a second off their 1/4mile times.

My mechanic at dodge insisted the valve lash and everything was up to snuff, I need to phone industrial injection again to talk because the last time I talked to them was about the overboost/underboost codes and that was all...
I want to know if any of you guys out there with lots of modifications are experiencing the same issues with there trucks at all and im just over reacting to the nature of the beast? Is there any chance my rail pressure is to low for these injectors? I've only ever ran the default setting on my smarty for rail pressure

Low RP could be a possibility if the CP3 isn't up to snuff but with the Glacier LP and 50hp tips I would think you'd be fine. Do you have a RP guage? Have you checked the FCA (fuel control acuator)? That might possibly cause you some issues if you say you had the rattle before the upgrades. When my FCA went south it would rattle like a 24v and then race up and down. But then again my FCA was shot too.

I had a slight rattle just from the extra timing from the smarty before the turbo/tips but not this extreme. If by FCA you mean the little solenoid on the CP3, it was changed out as well for a new one to see if that was a problem also, I don't have a rail pressure gauge either but with the glacier lifter I also thought I would be fine as well

With the FCA replaced I would almost lean toward the CP3. But there could be other circumstances. The rattle could be a timing issue (most likely) but could possibly be a fuel delivery issue as well.
I'm being told that the tips I bought are old refurbished tips at a discount price and are refurbished very poorly to boot, and they are causing more people than just me problems. They are coming out and im switching to DDP 50's and hopefully this will be the fix I've been waiting for. My injector bodies are fine and a flow test should have proved that. The other issue with my turbo should be resolved also, I bought a MAP fooler from quadzilla and I didn't get the boost fooler for the old solenoid. My thoughts on why my Smarty isn't doing the boost fooling for me has me baffled on the other hand. Anyone else heard of this problem with the smarty?
If you don't mind indulging us, where did you get the tips from?
But as you stated, the Smarty is supposed to boost fool, but when I was running my Smarty/Dr.Performance stack I would always get over boost codes, until I stuck on the QZilla Boost Fooler as well, problem solved. I never really dug into why it wasn't working, I was just content on having no more CEL's.
