My Exhaust sounds BAD!!

I wanted to get alittle more exhaust flow on my 05, EGT'S are just way too high!! so i took off the cat and muffler and put on a BANKS MONSTER muffler off my budy's Duramax. Its sounds like crapp, Like a big FART when you rev it up. It sure don't sound like my 12v with stacks. Is that just the way these motors sound, or is it just the setup i have. I didn't really want to get much $$$ in it and i didn't want it to be really loud. Would a tip make it sound any better?? Thanks Chris

I have the Magnaflow and I love the sound of my exhaust. I also cut my cat out as well and the egt's went down a bunch. My Dad has the Monster on his Ford PS and it sounds good, but it's a total different setup because mine is 4" from the turbo back. I paid $110 for the magnaflow and then the muffler shop charged me 50 bucks to put it on, not bad in my book. Good Luck.

It may sound better outside but I doubt it. Your best bet is to just 4" straight pipe. They aren't that loud Straight Piped 4" but they sound way better.

Its an inline 6.....they all sound like crap!!!! I have never heard an inline six sound cool gas or diesel. If you want cool sound outa a diesel you need to go with a v8 my 6.0 sounded awsome but it was a piece of junk..... Even a 12 valve with stacks or anything else you could do to them still never sound as awsome as a v8. Its kinda bummer but thats the way it is......of course some sytems still sound better than others...but they still all sound like a straight six!!!!!

Thats strictly personal prefrence. I happen to like a straight piped 6 cylinder over a v8.

It's the multiple injection events on the CP3-pumped trucks that makes the exhaust note...well, weird. It's great for efficient, clean power, but the poor 5.9 just doesn't sound like an old Mack dump truck anymore I'll take the ultra-smooth, low revving sweet sound of an I-6 over a v-8 any day

I agree. My I6 sounds a lot better than any straight piped V8 diesel. The v8's sound like a flat tire flopping around.

Guys, I love the sound of my exhaust even towing. I haven't heard a V8 diesel that sounded that good unless you mean sounds like a big block Chevy. I played around with the tips to finally get a sound I liked. I still have a shorty Nelson sitting in the porch that I'd probably put on if I went Stateside as I think a few places might complain on my "loud" side out duals. Tonality is in the ears of the behearer. ks

When I think Diesel engine, I think Big Rig strait six, you can hear the wistle but yet its deep. a dodge with a 12v sounds darn close. When it comes to these new trucks, the dodge sounds wierd, a duramax with strait pipe sounds a lot better. I might just strait pipe this thing if its not too loud, thanks for the help. Chris

Whatever you think. Take a 12 or 24 valve that modded a little; and get it under a hard pull at about 1600-1800rpm's. If that dont give you cold chills down your spine, then nothing will. You can think those V-8 Diesel's sound good, but I sure dont!!

Back on topic: The newer generation trucks just dont have the sound the old 12 and 24 valves do. Thats just how it is. They are really raspy. They sound good at low rpm's, but they can get a little annoying up high. If I were you; I woul put the cattalytic converter back on. My buddy had his 06 like this for a little while,a nd it wasnt really allt hat loud, but it sounded really good,a nd was still loud enough people around you knew it was ther. Just try sticking the cat back on,a nd see if you like the sound.

fellows, i think i changed my mind. Got it all bolted up and welded some new hangers on and took it up town for a drive. Now it sounds like a cummins (in line 6) When you punch down on it going by building it sounds MEAN!! Its a little deeper than my 12v, but not too deep. And it not real real loud. I'm going to have to give it a thumbs up, Sounds GOOD!!

I agree too. I hate the sound of the Powerjokes. The flat tire flopping around is a great way to describe it, Ive been lookin for a good term to describe that PSD sound and that is perfect.
