My dad finally bought a cummins

2005 3500 reg cab 2wd 6spd. He is going to be using it for alot of towing. 8000K-14000K being max. He wants me toget a little more out of her though so. I am thinking Gauges, stock straight pipe, whistler intake, and a economy or towing downloader. My biggest question is programme/downloader whats the best for towing/economy?

Smarty does rock. I'm hopefully getting one soon. It's your fault Shane. After riding in your truck I've been chomping at the bit to get one. If I was using my truck soley for towing I would look at Quadzilla products. Get the Commander for gauges and box control. Good price too.

If it's for dads truck and mostly towing think about the Quad XZT box rated 65 hp & 150+ tq. It gives you a little low end, moderate mid and slight top and does a little assistance on fuel economy. Also a big plus is that it only takes a few minutes to install and un-install for warranty issues. In conjunction with either the Commander or Recon gauges it makes a very good inexpensive package and Quad seems to stand behind his products quite well. ....Call the DTR store for availibility and pricing details....

Also you might want to do a little research on the straight pipe as many complain about the drone with it and many have used a thru muffler to replace the stock one and eliminate the drone. Donaldson is one I ahve heard good things about as far as no drone but there are others also.... do a system search for further information.

what warranty?

unplug for warranty issues? Don't bother unpluging, quad will leave signs that it was there. warranty will be canceled the next time tech calls star. Ask me how I know.

the only thing that wont leave anything behind is a smarty is what they say. other stuff is going to show that it has had the program changed.

I have been using a Granatelli Motor Sports (GMS) 70hp Big G module that is non-adjustable. It has a set HP rating of 70hp and it will not void your warranty. Very simple to install. Just unplug the module, install a plug, and it will return the truck back to stock setting. It will leave no footprint of ever being there. You can also just unplug the harness all together to hide it. Only two Piggy-back style connectors to hook up. Night and day difference in the way my truck runs especially when towing. I personally didn't want a module that was adjustable, because I know I would be running it in race setting all the time!

O'yeah, I also picked up 3 MPG with the module alone.

My understanding from Quads posts on this board is the XZT box leaves no footprint. If you had a problem maybe you left something, like a wire tap or ??? visable. I'm sure that if DC wanted to dig deep enough anything can be traced even a Smarty but most of the plug in boxes once they and all traces (velcro, wire taps, etc) are removed they aren't supposed to leave a trace as the box ix fooling the engine computer into not seeing anything other than what it wants to see there fore there is nothing to see unless you have thrown an engine code and the ECM shouldn't see anything because the box is fooling the ECM into seeing the values it should be seeing instead of the increased values the box adds. Now I'm not real knowledgable but have studied this issue quite a bit and never had any problems with my 04.5 with the XZT on it and believe me I had many problems with my 04.5 truck itself, just no warranty issues over the XZT and it only took me a few minutes to remove box prior to wrecker towing truck into dealer many times. So far haven't wanted to take any chances with the new one so the XZT is sitting in my garage waiting to see if I want it to be installed.
