Muffler replacement

I have a 0-4 1/2 3500 short bed 4x4 I was wondering if anybody knows of a high-performance muffler replacement since it came with a 4 in. exhaust from the factory I just went to replace the muffler if possible.

Throw the muffler in the trash and straight pipe it. The sound is much better than any aftermarket muffler ..

A Donaldson or Nelson Straight through muffler has been a popular choice around here. They range in length, up to 51", depending on the sound you are after. The shorter they are the louder they are. All can be had for under 100.00. Nice sound too. I opted for the 51" muffler because I wanted something not too loud, just better flowing.

I went with a MBRP muffler from DPP. Comes with all the brackets pre-welded so no welding required. Just cutout the old and put in the new. The sound is just slightly louder than stock unless you put your foot in it. Then it comes to life in a good sort of way No drone at any rpm either. I paid 149.00 for it. Was the perfect muffler replacement for me.

The best performing and sounding muffler replacement we have found is the Aeroturbine 4040L used with a SS off-set pipe to match up tot he factory tail pipe. You can see pictures of it here http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/exhaust2

I used the Flopro straight thru diesel muffler. Sounds good, nice deep tone and no drone even when towing. You can see their products at www.flopro.com. Mine is the short one with the 4" inlet and outlet.

I had a shop do it because I dont have access to a torch or welder. They charged me 100.00. I have some pics in my gallery of the install. I had to order an offset 4" pipe since the factory muffler is not straight through. It took the guy over an hour to do. Since I left my CAT in place the 51 was a real tight squeeze.

Mountainmac,

Thanks for posting the link, missed this post last week sorry. We have the MBRP replacement performance mufflers. They are built from 409 stainless like the stock system and even have the welded hangers that drop right into the stock rubber mounts, stock turck with the muffler is real close to stock sound except when you have your foot in it. We also have cat test pipes for those that off road or race in aluminized and 409 stainless.
