Muffler elimination kit from Geno’s Question
Muffler elimination kit from Geno’s Question
Hello guys I am new to this form and to the diesel revolution. I have a 2006 2500 quad cab. It appears to have a stock 4'' exhaust on it. If I use the elimination kit from Geno's will it be comparable to a 4" aftermarket exhaust?
Thanks for the help. I have no other mods on the truck. I use it as a daily driver and in the summer I tow a 9500 lb travel trailer.
I do plan on adding a S&B air box & a cfm+ intake tube. I am also looking at a tuner but would like one that has on the fly adjustments.

Ditto! Sounds great daily driving and no real load. But while towing does drone. triggered my wife's migraines during a trip to Ohio and back. Fortunately she was a trooper and it didn't hurt our vacation too much. Will be "upgrading" to a Donaldson or Nelson before we tow heavy again.
I did a lot of towing this past summer with mine and I did not get much of a drone at all. Not one time during any of my trips did I wish I didn't have the muffler delete...... Heck! If anything the turbo whistle gets more irritating on a super long trip then the exhaust.. I don't mind the turbo whistle either though.
Just a word of caution, when you buy your delete pipe make sure you buy the one from Geno's. I found a cheaper one from another source, but when I received it there wasn't a hanger included with the delete pipe. The factory exhaust has three hangers right at the muffler. I know part of the reason for this is because the factory muffler is so heavy, but the other reason is to keep down viberation from the exhaust system. When I installed my cheaper delete pipe without a hanger I had one major viberation at a certain rpm on decel coming out from under my truck. If I was rolling up to a stop light and pushed the clutch in, when the rpms were dropping right at about 1000-1100 rpm it would sound like a cell phone on viberate (except about 50 times louder in the cab). This sound only lasted about two seconds, but there was no way that I was going to put up with that with a 40k truck. Looks like Geno's kit comes with a hanger, so you should be o.k. with that one.

I have the other pipe too and it was also a bit short. I found some stuff in my garage to make it all work though..
sallyman, we don't discuss removing federally required items from our trucks, even though many here have done it.
I'm sure it would sound great though....

I have the Genos ME and I LOVE it. Nice deep tone to the exhaust. It was easy to install, get some band clamps from you local auto parts, they make a real good positive clamping without crimping stuff like the regular hanger clamps do.
I have no drone or offensive, irritating noise, but then the Mega Cab has the resonator in-line that the QuadCabs do not. That may be the real difference in sound, drone issues. As far as removing the CAT, I left mine in place. It only has about 1/2 pound of backpressure, not enough of a restriction to have concern, the muffler is the real issue regarding back pressure. Plus, at some point in time, with all the EPA specs being tightened, taking the CAT off could bring you some hefty fines, etc (if it isn't already a probem like that in the states that require inspections).
All in all, since the 2006 already comes with a 4" exhaust system, it is really money well-spent to open things up without going to an entire aftermarket replacement. Does the job well, very affordable.
If you take the time to cut some horizontal slits with a grinder or dremmel tool on your stock muffler pipe ends. You can pry up the flanges that you will create with the slits to get past the dents caused by the clamps. Time and effort well spent to get it apart, it makes removing the muffler a snap and would make re-installing the muffler easy if you decided you wanted it back on.

I have a Geno's and love it.. I have a minor drone from 1200-1350 under mod acceleration.. made worse when exhaust pipes are COLD.. Smarty Jr actually cut it in half...and the wife didnt mind it at all... until.. we just bought a new RV and in the 40 miles of towing it took to get it home and to storage I was told I need a quieter exhaust... its noisy when towing thats for sure.... so now I dont know what to do??? I am kinda thinking about a 4" FBD kit w/muffler and no cat... Thou I am not sure... time to research.
If you want to make it permanent, you should look into just having a piece of 4" pipe welded in. Thats what I did with the hole where my muffler and cat were. It will be a little bit cheaper.
Well I put the kit on and I love it. Sounds great outside and not loud at all inside. Will have to wait till spring to see what it sounds like towing.
Thanks for all of your responces.
