Smarty = boost fooling (or not), reduce tq mgmt (or not), change tire sizes, read / clear codes, timing (or not) + duration (and i believe pressure is coming), internet updateable, doesnt leave junk / tell tales in ecm when returned to stock, very good egt mgmt with the additional fuel, multiple power levels 30, 60, 90, 130, 170, (and the new "Hot" smarty...guessing 230+hp), various amounts of smoke depending upon level, great customer service

Gauges, Intake, Exhaust are pretty much mandatory for any programmer....to utilize the higher levels most recomment turbo, fuel pump, and trans work (min of tc, vb...most recommend also billet shafts, flex plate, other)....

I plan on spending at $3-4k on trans alone + $1.5k on turbo + $500 on fuel pump....then i'm done! :-)

A lot of people seem to like to stack the quad / smarty or tst/smarty....but w/o the supporting parts, stacking isnt going to get you much usable over just the smarty....

your going to need more of a 75% tranny 25% motor, I think, it depends on how nuts he wants to go with it

torque converter/valve body is a good start for beginners, then you can start adding boxes/downloaders

hope this helps

A good thing to remember though is that doing the tranny is not just a precautionary mod, you will actually gain performance from it.

I'm not sure how credible the source was, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing at least a few people that cut nearly 1 second off their quarter-mile with a built tranny alone because it gets down the power that much better

Worth at least 250hp when stacked with the smarty, but must be used very cautiously as it can be very damaging to the truck....best used for enhancing the common diesel tech discussion and installation of power parts!
