Moly Inhibitors In Oil
Moly Inhibitors In Oil
What are "MOLY" inhibitors in oil and I've read that Cummins dosent recommend them in the engines yet ROYAL PURPLE and SCHAEFFER 9000 both list them in their SYN oils - what gives with this ?
moly is short for molybdenum disulfide a gray dry lubricant, in the new cj oils they had to remove some good lubricating stuff because it did not burn clean in the new smog crap moly, boron and other good friction reducers were added to replace . the moly that cummins is talking about is moly additives that are sold by j.c. whitney and others that uses large pieces of moly that glogs filters and causes other problems the moly in delo royal purple schaeffer's and others is so small that it causes no problems and does not collect in any filter. hope this helps cant spell for sh#$
I agree...I've used Royal Purple the life of the truck and it has come out SLICK after 15,000 miles, like it wanted to keep going. I use it in everything, even my yfz loves it. But for the sake of my wallet, I will definitely be trying out some Delo 400.
I find it VERY hard to believe that Cummins doesn't want moly in their engines. Moly in the correct form, is some of the best anti-wear additive your engine can see. It stops metal to metal contact. Period.

If it makes you feel any better the Technical manager for RP is on his 3rd cummins and runs nothing but RP. The only fluid they dont make for our trucks is the tranny fluid. Oh and look up purple ice while your at it!
