Modding Factory Exhaust
Modding Factory Exhaust
I am not planning on doing anything wild with my new 06 Quad cab. This is my daily driver that the wife and new baby will ride in also. I have to keep the exhaust tone inside the cab as close to stock as possible. I had a 99 that was straight piped(no muff. no kat), It was ungodly load at times. It never really bothered me but would be too load with the baby.
I am looking at either removing the muffler or kat but not both. In the past on gas engines just removeing the kat would make the stock muffler more throaty sounding. Can anyone recommend what I can do to help the stock exhaust flow better without increasing in cab noise. I would liek to hear the turbo in the exhaust or a litle more Cummins sound at the tailpipe. I cannot have resonance in the cab though.
For a programmer I think I will go with the Smarty simply because it cannot be detected by a dealer. I do not want to have any warranty issues.
Thanks

Muffler Delete comes highly recommended here too. I did it on my MEGA and my wife didn't even notice, with the windows up. We pull a 6k lb trailer and she STILL doesn't notice! hahahahah

i was told that you would be given alot of trouble for loosing the cat. also its a crime to ditch it??? my dealer gives me enough trouble anyways but DC told me that it would void the emmissions warranty if i remember right. what real gaines to you get by loosing it? i dont need to give them anymore reason for red flaggin me. i think im on the fritz w/ my warranty becuase i have an aftermarket tool box
trust me id like to gut it but that would be wrong

getting rid of the kat helps lower the EGT and the turbo spools up quicker due to getting rid of the back pressure the kat creates i would get rid of the cat and go aftermarket muffler. mine sounds pretty loud and you can barely hear it in the cab with the windows up and i ahve no drone going down the highway.

There is not any emissions stuff on our trucks except the CAT, so if they voided the emissions part of your warranty it would not matter.
It is against the law to remove the cat and/or the muffler but the Cat is the only thing shops seem to care about.
your dealer would have to prove that you removing the cat caused the problem you where trying to warranty. I don't think they could just red flag you for it right on the spot if your cat is gone.

Yeah its illegal to remove it, thats why i opted to let my Cat run away
Stainless muffler delete pipe -got mine from "pure diesel performance" i would recommend welding it in place after a test drive- keep the cat, dot around here will check for it sometimes, probably will in your area someday, as well
So is the majority of Law enforcement really smart enough to be able to tell the difference from 03-04 models w/o cats and the 05-06 models w/ cats? No offence, I know if your on this site, you know the difference but do most?? I really doubt it. Now dealers on the other hand, no two Dodge dealers will tell you the same thing
so there's no telling.....
