Long crank no start will start by roll start

This truck will crank with no start. If we push start it will fire no problem. Any ideas.

have you tested the batterys?

CoolumConst 10-09-2008 08:16 PM

been replaced.

it would be interesting to see what rail pressure is while cranking. any codes? has it been getting hard to start for a while, or just all of the sudden wouldn't start? wondering if the rail pressure valve is wasted, or if there is excessive injector return....

Starter engaging the same speed as before?

CoolumConst 10-10-2008 09:34 AM

Starter seems to still crank good. It sometimes starts after cranking for awhile but the breakers for the starting system start tripping. I am thinking rail pressure problem. We have two trucks at work that have this problem and our dodge mechanics are basically parts changers (drives me crazy that they do not know a thing about dodges) I told him the rail relief or rail pressure sensor. If the pump is returning too much fuel is that through the rail or is there a return line from the pump.

check the connector tubes. Happened to me twice. the first time one was damaged . Have to have 10,000psi to start. The second time they just needed re-torqued. hope this helps.

10,000 to start[laugh]might want to check the books again need 3 to 5,000 to get the injectors to fire. most trucks idle at 6,000 to 7,500

Put a snap-on scanner on your truck and crank it over. Won't start till it hits 10,000. Mine also idles at 6,000. I've seen it with my own eyes twice. Just trying to help.

i would supect the injectors or rail pressure sensor. just replaced them on the 06. if its blowing a lot of black smoke and rattles its the injectors if not probably rail pressure valve
