A Little Input Shaft Carnage

I figured some of you might enjoy seeing some wrecked tranny parts. I snapped a couple pictures of the damage right after I dropped the trans last night. (Their only cell phone pics, not the best quality).

Some pieces of the shaft that were easy to remove.

Going to start the tear down process soon and get a parts list together. Also need to figure out whos parts i'll be using. Anyone know where to find a good shop manual for a 47re?

Sorry for your loss but that looks pretty cool. What were you doing when it "gave"?

I was just cruising 25mph through town. The night before I was jumping on it and I heard a pop in the tranny, Im thinking it must of fractured then the next day it finally let go.

It was pretty loud when it broke, but I knew what it was right away.

Was that a billet input or a stock shaft? If it was billet, who's input? I would go with OPIE's input next. He is the only mfr who will stand behind his product because they never break!

The shaft was stock. I was surprised the tranny lasted as long as it did (116k).

Yes indeed. I will be going w/ his parts. 3x TC, VB, a complete rebuild and billet shafts. After tax money comes back of course.

Im really hoping so. A got a buddy with a 02 24v pushing 600hp with a full built Goerand trans. That truck runs like a raped ape, the trans fells very strong. When you put it in [D] you can definitely tell its not the soft spongy auto.

Did you go with all billet shafts? I was thinking about just doing the trans with a flex plate and a billet input. Money being the big factor there. Whats your opinion on the other shafts?

Depends on what kinda power you're pushing....and what you plan on doin with it....could just go with like you said, then if you break the outer shaft...it's not that big of deal so I've heard/read. The stock innershaft should be fine, unless you're in the upper high hp...big boy territory.

I'm only 2wd so I'm in the area you're thinking about....

I'd like to be at a solid 500-550 horse some day. The most i'll probably do is a set of small sticks, maybe twins and a cam. Nothing to drastic. I don't sled pull but I may take it down the track a time or two when I get it all dialed in. As much as I'd like to build the tranny solid as a rock this one time, the cost is what im after. I can't afford the $5k dollar + bill at the moment.
