less than impressed with triple dog and outlook

i bought a triple dog and outlook on monday. im fairly competent so i installed it myself. so far the only power i feel is above 2500 rpms on extreme, not ANYwhere else and i mean, NO difference. also the pryo will NOT read right. a 10 sec run in extreme with my foot to the floor showed a high of 450* and when i stand on it, the pyro reads 0 til i let off. hardly ANY smoke at all. dealer says " i dunno, your the first to have problems, call BD" i call BD and they say, " if its hooked up right it outta work, call back later." i AM NOT happy i spend $800 for something that doenst read right and only works at redline. does anyone have any ideas at all? i just want it to work. i even undid my tone ring mod thinking that maybe it had TOO much timing when combined with the box, not much difference.

Maybe try it without the Outlook. Mine gives good power at all rpm's, better than my Edge did.

I'm just guessing here, but doesn't the Outlook defuel if it sees a problem with the EGT's?'

Could be that there is a problem with the pyro connection.

I noticed that it took quite a few calls to Bully Dog to find someone who actually had full knowledge of his product, and he even admitted to not knowing everything.

If you don't get a senior tech just hang up and call back again. If you get one of the girls who wants to take a message and have someone call you back, just hang up cuz no one will .

I think they do a lot of training at the call center , and there is ony one guy who knows whats going on . Hang in there, you'll eventually get him. It's luck of the draw. Even if you asked for him by name, he would be busy, and the call would go to the girls at the message center.

Hope you get it fixed, I don't have the Outlook monitor, just the BDTD and I'm happy with it now.

gonna unhook the outlook again and see. just my luck, wait and wait for over a year to get a chip, buy it and it doenst work. i coulda regeared for the price of that and i know how to make gears work! UPDATE...lookin at my downloader its still runnin the 2.2.2 program which i thought i updated. to i hook it up to update and the update screen comes up with a little blank box you could type in, the update button and a cancell button and what looks like a progress bar on the bottom. i hook it up, click update and a few seconds later a "7" appears in the little box i could type in, but after 10 minutes nothings changed, happened, or appeared in the progress bar. BD once again told me to call back later as the tech was unable to answer questions...AHHHHHHH...i wish i could just get a new one out of the dealer...EDGE is lookin preeeeeeeety nice right about now. UPDATE AGAIN. unhooked outlook, installed downloader. still just a lil puff of smoke on take off and no real power increase, MAYBE a LITTLE, but on extreme i am bein told i outta feel this. !@#$%A%!!!

I had the same problem, make sure that you selected the right combo when you installed the programming. IE.dodge W/ other module, instead of dodge w/bullydog module for your specific year

Okay.... If you have not figured it out already. Which I hope you have. If you plug it in to do the update and it shows a number in that window look at the screen of your downloader.... Anything happening there? If not try it on another computer... There might be another fix for it, but for some reason, I cannot do the updates from either of my laptops, but my desktop works great. Not sure why, but that is how it is.

Once you have the current update make sure when you install it you select the right vehicle. Make sure you do the install per the instructions on the screen. Try this without the Outlook first. Once it is loaded and you selecet your power level finish following the instructions. Unplug it cycle your key and fire it up. Plug it back in and go for a drive. Try adjusting on the fly with it and see if you notice the differences... If all that works then you know your downloader is doing it's job. Now time to move onto the outlook.

If you are installing the Outlook as well, make sure all your connections are good. Make sure your Pyro gauge wires are not shorting out use shrink wrap or Tape to cover the screws and make sure you are on the right lead for the Pyro. You need to set the Vehicle for Dodge with Triple Dog and then set up two of your windows for both pyro gauges... maybe those are wired different or backwards... If you notice the post-turbo pyro is the one working just re-wire it to the other leads off of the outlook harness, so that it is the Pre-turbo input. Set your gauge clusters for what you want to see and take it for a drive, this time use your Outlook as your On-The-Fly adjustment. hopefully all works well. If not then you atleast know that it has something to do with the outlook.

These problems are usually pretty easy to trouble shoot after you have worked with a few of them.

Shoot me a PM or e-mail if need be and maybe I can help you out with more trouble shooting...

Hope this helps,

Jason

thanks for the walk through. ive done all that and still nada. and nope, i couldnt update with my laptop, but the shop did it fine on theirs...weird. i still have pyro readings that go to ZERO when i get on the gas and have never read about 450* after a WOT run on extreme. also on extreme i get a LITTLE puff of smoke and i mean little and thats it. BD tried tellin me my BHAF and 5" straightpipe are makin my motor run super lean. nope, sorry, dont buy it. the local shop says maybe my trannys toast. nope, shifts and locks up fine. ive driven dodges with 37's and my setup and they MOVE and smoke up the road. it said i did an 8 sec 0-60 via the outlook which is prety quick, but its sure doenst give any sort of added power til 2500+ rpms and NO smoke when driving. dealer is going to swap me out a new one today or tomorrow. i even undid my tone ring mod, thinkin i was gettin TOO much timing, but no such luck. i have the 2.2.6 update on my BDDL and runnin it without the monitor, still no real difference, theres a LITTLE more power, but nothing worth $800 thats for sure. more like when you put an exhaust and intake on. so i dunno...its gettin old.

tonight i reset my TPS or APPS by turning on the truck, stickin the pedal to the floor and slowly letting it up. seems to smoke more now and power feels better. maybe this was it all along. the outlook monitor is still not reading correct temps at all. monday i get a new one hopefully. could it be that my BHAF and 5" strightpipe are allowing enough air to pass easily that im not going to see much smoke on extreme?

Not likely as the turbo is the real bottle neck in the engine. Think about it, the size of the inlet of the turbo, then spinning the turbine wheel with resistive forces of the compressor wheel on the other side. It sounds as if you have either a defective box or wire harness. Good luck to you.

I had a bad Outlook Monitor and it caused me to have similar issues. The Outlook wouldn't register temps and then it made my truck throw a high boost code and defuel. The thing wouldn't get out of it's own way. It ended up killing my MAP sensor and once I replaced it and BD sent me a new Outlook all was well. You might want to check the defueling settings on the monitor to make sure it's not set to defuel at a low temp also. If the setup was working correctly you'd know it...

Well at this point I would go back to your dealer and demand the 30 money back garauntee that they must honor through their terms and conditions with Bully Dog. It is a shame that they will not help you look into it anymore... Unfortunately it is stories like yours that start the downword spiral of the reputation of a product...

Did you try this all with the Outlook unplugged too? You might really have a bad Outlook if it works fine without it. Also if it is all working fine and your connections are good then, you should be able to leave a nice solid black cloud... There is no way a stock turbo is going to make enough PSI and get enough air in there to make it run that clean...

Since no one wants to help... Just call BullyDog and your dealer and remind them of the thirty day money back garauntee... Maybe they will get more motivated. I would stick to your guns after all the BS you have been through and return it...

I am sorry to say it but, sometimes, people must learn the hard way. Your dealer must refund the money right then, they do not have to wait for authorization from BullyDog to do so... FYI

On my outlook I saw 4.4 0-60 on 35's and low 5's on 37's...

after talkin to the dealer some more, they are going to have a new one for me hopefully tomorrow. it sounds like they just wanted me to try to fix it using bullydogs tech line first which is fine, because now they offered up a new one on their own. you ran 0-60 in the 5's on 37's? was that with 3.73's or 4.10's? i was happy with 8's. last night i reset my apps and it seems to increase smoke just revving it up in neutral on extreme, i was too tired and sick of this thing to even drive home on extreme. with the luck ive been having id have blown the tranny. hopefully a new setup tomorrow will cure all my probs. I IN NO WAY HAVE MEANT TO BADMOUTH BULLY DOG OR THE LOCAL DEALER. ive just been frustrated i spent $700 and got a headache instead of some burnt rubber and tranny thanks for all the help.
