That size is not an option on 3rd gen's (He needs 17" tires). If they made a 255/85-17 tire, I would be all over it!!!

265/70-17 will not touch, but they are almost exactly the same height as a 235/80-17. If you are just looking wider, this would work. If you want taller, it's not gonna help much.

Some 285/70-17's won't touch, some will. It depends on the tire. regardless, they are going to be a lot closer together in the back. There are a few threads on dually tires. You might try searching them for more info. A buddy of mine has 285's on his dually, with a 2" spacer.

This is what im wanting to do on mine but i am concerned about the distance the wheels stick out past the fenders, and i cant find flares for a dually let alone flares deep enough.

There are aftermarket dually flares that are about 2" wider.

For the front, most companies sell just the fronts as a pair. I know Bushwacker offers fronts only..

First pic is 285/70/17's with a 1 1/2" spacer(gives a good idea of how much flare is needed).Second pic is 265/70/17's with a 1/4" spacer. djbikeman is correct in his earlier post. The 285's with no spacer are way to close for comfort.

How close were your 285's with no space? And do you think you could run them with a 1/4" spacer?

They don't touch with the 1/4" spacer but are very close.I wouldn't want to tow heavy with that set up.I couldn't get my pinkie finger in between them. For daily driving you could get by.

It is listed as an available size in the new bfg km2's in an E load range but nobody has them in stock and can't say when/if they will get them.

I tow about 6k right now do you think that is to heavy to run 285's and a 1/4" spacer? Is a 1/4" spacer the biggest I can go and still get my stock lug nuts on safely?

1/4" is the limit.Anyting more and the lugnut will not completely thread on.My friend runs the 285's with the 1/4" spacer and tows a GN horse trailer. So far he hasn't had any problems. To each their own.I don't like it but it can be done.

Thanks for the info Homewrecker. What brand of tire is he running? Sorry for all the questions but it seems like everyone just says "yes" or "no" with no supporting info. I have gotten more straight answers in this thread than hours of searching. Again Thanks..

He is running Firestone Destination A/T's(D).I had the Nitto terra's in the 285(E).I am waiting for the BFG KM2 to be available in the 255/80/17(E).Its a listed size but like I said earlier no one has it and can't say when they will.It will be the perfect size for me,wider and taller than stock with no need for anything more than a 1/4" spacer. The 265's I currently run are wide but are about a 1/2" shorter than stock.
