King Shocks

Hi all,

Long-time lurker here. I was wondering if anybody had upgraded to King Shocks from Bilsteins and could give their appraisal of the change. I ordered a 3" kit from Don Thuren, (very friendly & easy to work with by the way), and I have split the order into 2 parts, springs & hardware first and the shocks second. I'm kinda of leary of the stock "shocks" and their ability to control damping and I'm kinda of hesitating on the installation until I have the whole package. Would be kinda cool to do a comparison though, on the 3 different shocks and see how big the changes would be between the different levels of shock upgrade and have everything else the same for the baseline.

Thanks
Hans

I like my King 2.5's more than the Bilstein 7100's I had before. Good stuff.

No, not the coilovers. I'm getting the smoothbody 2.5s. What did you do to reinforce the shock tower to handle coilovers?

i have SwayAways, like em....

I think the Kings, Fox, and SAWs all perform well. It is how you set them up that will make the most difference. They are all about the same price. Make sure you get them set up with the proper valving for the springs you plan on running.

i had sway a ways on my ford....they leaked and werekinda ugly...the new stuff looks good, but i don't know if they fixed the leaks and stuff...i then had bilstein 7100's and they were awesome...i plan on using either the 7100's again or kings when the time comes.

They're great. I love the way my truck rides. I had the 5100's on my old truck with Kore springs and the truck was very stiff. NOT this one.[guitar]

I think he has them just not in that pic.

I love my stuff from Don, especially the Kings. My rear end is set up right now with the Carli mini packs and stock shocks and the ride is pretty nice. I am getting ready to order the rear Kings to finish the complete package, so I think that you will be just fine setting up your truck in two purchases.

hxw5223 11-13-2007 09:52 PM

I plan on doing the same thing. The spring rates I'm getting are setup for Don's valving. Pretty cool guy, I found Kings a bit cheaper than what he could sell them for, and he even gave me valving suggestions for the shocks. I think his knowledge is worth the extra cost though, especially considering the time put into making system work as a complete unit. He must have fun doing the r&d though!

That truck is owned by Attitude Performance, in Illinois.

No reinforcements actually were made.

The truck has 75,000 miles on it without any issues.

I have them now. I drove a couple of days with the stock ones waiting for a spacer on carli's ends and they were already bent. Installed carli's and it's good to go.[roll]
