Anyone have any pics of this installed on a third gen? I'd consider it but I doubt it will fit with my custom BHAF setup as the filter touches the alternator as it is. Pics of it would be great.

 

I was excited when I saw that they had one available, but you can get a really good compressor and air tank setup from Viair for much, much cheaper. That is what I use in my Jeep... a 100% duty cycle compressor with a 3 gallon tank. Plus you can mount the Viair setup anywhere you want and keep it out of the engine compartment... there isn't much room under the hood as it is.

 

Well, I have been using a QuickAir2 for many years now with decent success. I have a tank mounted under my truck and the compressor mounted in my toolbox. However it's giving up the ghost lately and it was adequate for filling up tires but not much else (forget running air tools). I'd love to be able to run a air wrench from the truck.

The largest Viair compressor available (550C) produces 2.9CFM at 0 psi, 1.4 CFM at 100 psi, and 0.78 CFM at 150 psi. That's not that impressive to me and it's price is almost $300.00. The york compressor units put out over twice that much IIRC. You can run air tools directly, at least I've read that.

 

I'll toss another vote for the viair, pics in the gallery of it mounted on the tranny skid plate, and a 8.5 gallon tank out back, 150 psi shutof switch and its a beautifull thing.

 

The Viair compressor isn't that great by itself, but add a cheap air tank to it and you've got an awesome system that can be mounted anywhere and is much less expensive.

 

Well, I'll throw in a vote for Kilby. I had the thompson pump and a 5gal tank. Switched to the kilby kit and love it. The alt roll down so you should be fine. Will get a pic tommorow. I need the volume of air for the train horns.

I am looking for some OBA. I want to be able to inflate tires and maybe even use an impact wrench. I have room for a pretty big tank. Like 30 gallons.

Kilbys... is..........expensive. I am not ready to drop 1000 bucks.

Viair. This is a new name to me. Where did you guys get yours?

I see the Viar's for about $200 shipped.

Here's another brand a lot more powerful for 2X as much. Might not be necessary if I have a large enough tank since the Viar 450 is "Continuous duty".

Why dont you guys just get a Powertank or any old Co2 bottle system. The will run all of you air tools, power you train horns, fill tires. It only costs about $12 to refill.

Pat, I got my viair on ebay, for a thirty gallon tank I would go the 590 route, sure the 450 I have would fill it, eventually, the 590 is bigger and better for a larger tank. You are right on aboutnot running out when you need it. When is spring going to get here, I miss Hooters

 

I got the ExtremAir unit waiting to be installed once it warms up. It will be replacing a QuickAirII which bit the dust. The specs look really good and it sure is a big beefy unit.

 

I had the co2 setup on the jeep but there is no where here to fill it. Had the thomas, but it couldn't keep up and would not run air tools. I love my kilby setup and would never go back. The one major problem I just ran into is that the twin turbo setups will not work with this kit. With the ability to run air tools and have the proper air supply for the train hornes its the correct way to go.

Id like to get the oasis compressor that has 90% duty cycle, 175 psi max pressure and runs3.5 cfm at 100 psi. that and a 5 gallon tank would be nice. http://offroadrecovery.com/product/XD2000

 

Just wondering how noisy these compressors are? I know the cheap ones from airlift sound like a weed eater and are really annoying.
