Benifit of removing silencer ring!!!!! Look down into it! Can you say restriction? I know you can! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm removing mine and replacing it with 5.5" smooth aluminum tube into a 5.5: to 6" rubber elbow with another 6' aluminum tube into a K&N cone type filter! Eliminating vertually all restriction in the intake!

wow, this is all very funny.
I skipped to the end after the first 2.5 pages.
I really don't even know where to start. the only advice I have is before you do anything to your truck read every post you can find on the subject, talk to the aftermarket folks, and even try to find a down to earth realistic dealership mechanic. and use your common sense
and finally DON'T RUSH INTO THINGS! that goes for lots of things in life too

Dont feel like the Lone Ranger Viking I had trouble with mine too I ended up bending it with a pair of pliers and pulling it out it looked just like yours. The the snap ring was way easier with it out of the way. I'm sure if alot of these cool guys who gave you such a hard time were honest theirs werent all easy either. I've taken the rings out of at least 8 trucks no problem, my 07 was just hard headed and didnt want to give it up very easy.

Now missing the silencer ring. Took all of about 20 min which included the donation of blood to the mosquito foundation. More noticeable whistle...even with the stock air box & k/n.
Couple of questionson't think I like the k&n, I noticed oil on the intake of the turbo...I'm guessing it's being sucked out of the air filter?
Found an amsoil dry filter (EaAU4510) to connect to the factory turbo intake hose which I.D. is 4.5" Is there a better set up for under $100? Seems this would be almost identical to an AFE1? Any ideas?
