just lost my engine...

I was driving with my buddy to Havasu for one last trip for this season. Every thing was fine, then in less than a hundred miles I noticed I was down 1/2 a tank. As I noticed this she just started to smoke like crazy I pulled over 80 miles from AZ. on highway 40. The underside of the truck looks like it was powerwashed with oil/diesel. Theres no a dry item under the truck. The tow guy was ****** when we pulled over to stretch, his rigs was a oily/diesel mess becasue of my truck. My truck wont turn over at all. The crankcase is full of diesel. What the HELL!!! I've got only 25,400+ miles it a late06. This truck was running so well. Now what? I'm going to get bent by the dealership. Any Suggestions I'm In Los Angeles.

You had an injector crack and dump diesel in the crankcase. Not the first truck and sure not the last. It will be covered under warranty. Hope you didn't have a box or programer on it.

It's just the way it goes sometimes. Just tough luck. I'll bet there's a more than one Ford guy out there saying I can't believe my truck just blew up, I had a Cummins go for 300,000 and this Ford goes down at 25,000.

I feel for you, that's gotta be one heck of a headache. But as you know crap happens everyday. It's sortive hard to compare one trucks misfortune to anothers. Your 7.3 may have ran like a champ but the guys down the road may have done the same thing as your Cummins just did. This isn't a very common issue around here. Your dealer should take care of everything for you.

You don't think they will harp on you because of your GDP kit will you?

Remember one thing. If its man made it's screwed up.

Were there any signs of this at all before hand? Rough idle or mysterious noises? I'm super paranoid of injector problems.

that's some crappy news, sorry to hear about it. I've been there myself except I had a hole in a piston. I'm sure that's not the case with your truck... I hope. I also had oil covering everything in the engine compartment. I think the reason for that was because I blew out the turbo exhaust bearing too. I couldn't find any other place that it could have could from..... that much anyway.

That could be your problem and not a blown engine. It's possible you blew out the compressor bearing and oil was pouring into the engine through the intercooler... a reason it won't start. This is turn could have smoked an injector which could be where the fuel came from in the pan.

Hope its not all that bad for you. Don't let the dealer tell you it was bad fuel

I had a rough idle in the morning going to work for about 1 minute then it went away. Thats why in the mornig I changed the fuel filter thinking it was clogged. But nothing out of the ordinary. And the tail pipe is completely clean execpt for soot, so nothing coming from the turbo. And the engine bay is still perfect, just the underneath is screwed.

sorry, I missed the " underside part "

did you happen to change the oil too and maybe over fill it ? I suppose if all that oil under the truck came from the blow by and you didn't over fill... you may be in for some work.

Knocking on the hard wood of my desk... SO glad I got this '03!!! A few very minor issues is all it's had from 122,5xx miles back to when I got it at 24,799

I add 16OZ of 2 stroke oil (TCW-3 Supertech from Wallyworld) and 4OZ Power Services Diesel Klean against IP and Injector trouble form dry USLD fuel.

And I drive a LOT like my Grandpaw used to.

2 to 3 micron fuel filtration helps...ULSD is also a little tougher on the parts. Kerry

If one or more injectors go it will dump diesel fuel into the cylinders and run down into the crankcase mixing with the engine oil. That will cause the crankcase to become overfilled and usually it blows the enginr oil/diesel fuel mixture out of the crankcase vnt tube underneath the truck - thus the disgusting mess under your truck. I've seen it happen on 2 different Duramaxes 4 seperate times. And once on a Cummins. And I know of 2 6.0 Powerstrokes that between the two in a combined mileage of less than probably 75,000 go through I believe its up to at least 5 maybe 6 turbos.

If its man-made its bound to have problems - nothing man-made has ever been perfect (except the Smarty according to some people on here)
Hope you get it staightened out. It should be covered under warranty - even the oil and filter change you will need. Don't let them make you pay for anything.

The reason the engine is currently locked up is due to the injector continuing to drain into the cylinder. It has filled up and the starter can not compress the fuel.

My buddy just bought an 05 used with 40,000 on it the next day he went on a short trip and on the way back it started smokin real bad. he took it to the dealer and the replaced the turbo and intercooler. 6 weeks later we towed are jeeps about 150 miles to go wheelin on the way there i was getting oil on my windsheild so i told him about and when we got back he was 4 quarts low and lots of oil under the truck. he took it to the dealer and they said the truck had the #1 and #6 pistons replaced at another dealer ship and they messed up the block in those 2 cylinders. so the dealer is putting in a new short block under warrenty $4300 dollar for the motor if he had to buy it and that doesent count labor or gaskets. hopfully youll be as lucky GOOD LUCK

Never had it lock up the engine but my 04.5 lost 2 injectors on seperate occasions and it really is messy. You go thru a loit of fuel in a very short time. Both times dealer fixed but most do not stock injectors so you will have a 2 day wait for parts at least. Push for them to change all. Probably will not happen but I lost first at 27000 miles and second less than 30 days later, #4 then #6. Second one was traveling and had to rent a car for 2 days and stay at a motel and get food out. Kinda costly and Dodge says tough luck, not our probblem so no reimbursmenht from them for anything. They then would only cvhnge the "Broken" one but lately have heard of a few where if more than 1 is bad they have changed all 6. Be polite but persistant and try for all 6. Quarter wash will clean up most of the mess, jsut takes $2-4 or so if the dealer dosent do it. First repair, truck was cleaned, second I was just sent down the road as it was.

Good luck and hope you get going soon.
