Just Installed GDP Fuel Boss!
I finally got my Fuel Boss installed and this thing is slick! Pulleys don't spin as fast as I figured they would either. Now that I have lots of fuel I can't wait to do some serious mods later on down the road. I really like the simplicity of the pump and the fact that it will give peace of mind that nothing can stop this truck fuel wise. I also like that with all the draw tube problems that everyone else has with the Walbros and what not that if I have that problem and my Fuel Boss stops pumping my stock lift pump will kick in and draw the rest of the fuel in the tank. Also who else is running one of these units on they're trucks? Anyone had any problems yet? Should a guy have a spare belt around just in case?
I am running the Fuel Boss as well...no problems, had it on for 4 months, 8k miles, works great!
As for the last question, the GDP Fuel Boss is not just a pump, it is an entire fuel system, to include pump, wiring, feed/return lines, new draw straw/pickup assembly, ect.
Works great...and like stated, retains the existing in-tank electric pump for priming/backup in case of problems. You have two fuel systems, each with their own separate components....great setup!

i have been running mine for a lil over a year and no problems so far it works great i havent even had to change the belt yet. I would say GDP gets a 10 on this one and customer service is awesome to rich will help ya out if you did have a prob day or night and thats hard to find in this day and age.

Ya he was of great help for sure on anything i've bought there. He's got really detailed instructions and everything is well laid out in the package that you get full of parts. Almost like Christmas Day!
So, the only three downsides are:
1) Cost. IIRC they're pretty expensive.
2) You can't use a Fluidampr with it because it's driven off the crank pulley.
3) It sits below the motor, somewhat exposed. How reliable is the belt?
Then again, if the stock system turns on seamlessly, I guess it doesn't matter...

Mine has operated flawlessly, I did take the precaution of running a 2 micron filter before the pump, but I have only heard of a few failures. Am I missing something?
Im not knocking the Walbro setup one bit, but it will never deliver fuel like the fuel boss will. And I really like the fact that if the GDP fails my stock lift pump can limp a me home.Basically I like the reliability of the setup. And as far as the belts go there isn't much tension on them and the set up spins quite a bit slower than I had thought it would so I think they will last quite a long time. Richard guarantees one belt will nearly outlast the truck. I'll prob get a spare to keep around just in case and they are very easy to change out too. Now I need to get my fuel pressure guage to work correctly so I can really see how its pulling fuel. Can anyone out there tell me with there fuel pressure guage what it should be pumping at idle and at cruising speed?
And yes costly compared to others, but reliable, no fluidampr with this setup but I was never planning on getting one and yes sits exposed but then again so does my $1900 Espar coolant heater along the passenger side frame rail where I told them not to put it but they didn't listen...

Cost looked good to me!
Dieselboy.....I've got the BD aux lift pump. Does this have to be removed? I assume it would be running all the time due to being hooked up to the oil pressure switch. I really like the comments on the Fuel Boss!....can't wait to install! Did you drop the tank or remove the bed for the DS install?
Thanks

We dropped the tank for this one, I had a friend of mine who happens to be a DC mechanic do it for me while I gave him a hand. We had my truck up on the hoist and he had another little lifter device to take the tank down, we took the tank straps off and lowered it with the machine and he pulled out my stock lift pump and put the draw straw in and he put everything back together and that was that. As far as your BD goes I'm not to sure on that, you would have to call Rich at GDP and he should be able to tell ya. Basically all my stock lift pump does is give me fuel on start up and when the pressure from the Fuel Boss becomes to much for the stocker a Hobbs switch shuts it down and lets only the Fuel Boss do its thing. Kind of an override switch.
I did mine, it took about 14 hrs of labor. As for fuel pressure, mine sits around 8 psi at idle and gets up to around 30 psi at 2,400rpm. Cruising around 1,900-2,000 rpm I am sitting around 22-24 psi. Also, if you get the Fuel Boss, I would recommend getting the GDP Bypass valve tuning kit as well, runs $19.95. This kit comes with various thickness shims and a stiffer spring, which allows you to vary the fuel pressure to your liking.
As for the belt, I got a spare, just in case. I think the recommended change interval is every 50k miles, I will probably change mine around 75k. Belt should last a long time, adjusted properly, there is no tension on this belt at all. Great setup!

Thanks....I think I'll just yank the bed. I have a boom truck sitting at the shop...might as well use it. I'll probably just take the BD pump off as well....I really don't see what good it would be anyway especially being powered by the oil pressure switch...kind of a no brainer. I tell ya, I really like the option of the hyper drive as well....for later on down the road...pretty cheap upgrade!
Thanks for the info.
