Just an FYI..Please read!!
I am taking the time to let you all know what happened so maybe it won't happen to anyone else.
In Oct last year, I had fuel spray under my truck that blew up onto my tailgate. I limped into a Dodge Dealer & the firtst thing they told me was that they were voiding my warranty because I had a programmer that made my injectors blow.
Being the poor ol boy I am, I had my insurance company tow my truck back to my house so I could start the repairs. I started by draining the oil & removing the fuel filter. I discovered that my diesel was contaminated with gas. My insurance went after the station that sold me the crap fuel & I had repairs done to my truck by a local Cummins shop. They dropped and cleaned my tank, replaced the turbo, & installed new injectors. I told the guys at the Cummins shop that I had drained the oil & it was thin where fuel & gas blew into the crank case.
Just a week ago, I my engine started knocking very loudly. I was hoping there was just a cat or something in the fan. I pulled over and shut it down. I had to get towed again, & the Cummins shop started diagnosing again. They took off the valve cover & didn't see anything. They then removed the oil filter & it was filled with metal shavings. I had to remind the guys at the shop what happened back in Oct.
My insurance adjuster told the guys in the shop that he was thinking about totalling the truck. After the guys in the shop burst out laughing in his face, they asked him if he realized that it was Proboably around a $40,000 truck? He said he didn't realize it.
The way things look right now, I may be getting a new engine through the insurance co. complete with a Cummins warranty.
Just to help out some newbies or even some more expierenced diesel guys...
*Make sure you have all details in writing for any repairs
*Keep all your fuel receipts for about a month
*Find a place to do oil testing (Anyone have any suggestions?)
*If you run into a insurance related problem such as bad fuel, make sure you adjuster knows something about diesel engines. (Kind of like knowing the difference between cow poo & apple butter)
*If you change your own fluids, keep a record.
I will keep ya'll posted on what happens.

am dealing with bad fuel issue now, warrenty voided because of fuel, on Insurance, they say dont cover mechanical issues, how did your insurance cover, do you have a rider policy on mech? my issue started after hitting a large pond in the road, so insurance might cover it under road hazard, if the mech at dodge will agree that is the cause, as stands he thinks it was bad fuel and not pond, i diagree but we,ll see, just wondered how insurance will cover if bad fuel

I have heard of two guys around here with fuel problems, Dodge voided the warrenty, one is a 6.7 and the other a 5.9. Both at the same dealer, I can speek for one, the guy said I dont understand why the voided it my water in fuel light never came on. Dodge said you should of had that fixed.
To me this is BS. Just fix the darn thing. Both of the repairs that dodge Quoted where around $14000.00 holy crap who could drop that kinda of $$$, with fuel being 100.00 a gal LOL

What brand of insurance did you use and what type of policy? PM me if posting violates site guidelines.
BTW, I use Blackstone Labs too, and I keep a logbook of all fuel purchases (miles, gals, price, price per gal, date, etc. ) but I don't keep reciepts. I also 90% of the time use this big truck stop nearby instead of the mom and pop stores. Maybe I better keep reciepts.
I got too much stuff on my truck (esp. now since I'm putting twins in) to expect warranty coverage, I'd just be SOL if I ran into a fuel issue. Esp. since Dodge doesn't cover fuel even w/o mods.

My insurance adjuster is accusing me of actually dumping fuel in the crank case!
I called the insurance co & raised some heck with them. I should get an answer next week sometime. My insurance company is USAA.
The guys in at Bridgeway Cummins at Mt. Clemens, MI have been great helping me out.
Another FYI for you all...If you ever have a problem with a claim, make sure you document who & when if you talk to someone about an issue.
I will find out for certain on Monday what is going on.

I will be out of town for a few days, but my insurance wieners are suposed to call me Monday 14Apr to at 3:00 pm to let me know if they are going to cover my claim. If they don't I'll have to sell a kidney on ebay to pay for a new engine, then after I recover, I will take them to court. I will post my results so ya'll know what is up. This whole thing has me so stressed out!
