just finnished my BHAF

AS the title states. I finnished up my BHAF today. used fleetguard AH19037 filter and made a connector. I originally planned to slide the filter over the factory rubber tube, but it really didn't want to fit, so... I had some 4" exhaust tube laying around the shop. Cut a 5" piece of tube to connect the filter to factory rubber. easy enough. then the sensor. Hmmm! Had some small dia tubig, welded it to the 4" tube, drilled it out big enough for the sensor to have a snug fit with its o ring. cleaned it up really well with a grinder and a die grinder. Voila

Then I decided I needed a sheild to keep water/warm air out of the filter.

This is still a work in progress

I removed the silencer ring in the same round of Foolish thinking. It is a little more turbo whine. But not "6 liter loud" My partner has an 03 with the same mods (minus the bucket ) We also removed the baffles from his intake tube, and his is loud!
As far as the bucket, i ended up cutting a bucket into a little more than a 3rd and zip tying it to the filter itself .where it contacts the alt and acros the botom up to the hood. So it covers about a 3rd of the filter. TOOK it to the pressure washer and blasted the truck. the filter stayed dry, so we'll drive it in the next big rain and check the filter.
I picked tthe filter up from our local cummins big truck dealer, it was about 51 bucks.

35xj and I did ours at the same time. I removed my silencer ring and intake baffle as well as add the BHAF. Mine has a lot of turbo whine!

The air tube we made consists of 4" exhaust pipe with a shock bushing sleeve welded onto it to mount the IAT sensor.

Pretty cheap and effective mod...

My "John Deere" BHAF!

I just got done installing my BHAF. I got one from a friend of mine that works at the local Deere dealer. After two trips to Lowes' plumbing section, I was able to finally get the parts needed to get this monster filter to fit under the hood. Fortunately I was able to get it to fit w/o cutting away the plastic shield that runs behind the battery or the foot that the stock airbox sets into (In case it's gotta go in for service). It is pressed up tight into the foam on the snorkle, and rests against the front corner of the battery. It does however, rest snugly against the alternator- should I be concerned? It (torque tube) is also only about 1/8" away from the aluminum shield on the exhaust manifold. This does not worry me as much as if it were the stock black plastic tube, that could melt. For now, I have the IAT sensor zip-tied to the outside of the wire mesh on the filter. I will post pics as soon as I can. It really looks good under the hood- BHAF-4"to 3" flexible rubber tube-45 degree PVC elbow-stock tube. Everything seems to fit really tight. Thanks to everyone who has posted their BHAF ideas and install pictures online.

I just got my BHAF and had a few questions:

1. How much of the 4" pipe did you buy? How long?

2. I dont have a welder, any other way how I can use the MAF sensor?

that particular sensor is a dual function sensor - it measures ambient air temps and barometric pressure. the ECM is set up to read and calculate based off these measurements.

mass air flow, measures the amount of air entering the engine, often used in engines that are naturally aspirated. I think?
