Cool intercooler vs programmer

after some research and talking with a tech at banks. the intercooler/techni-cooler from banks CLAIMS to make more useable continuous HP/TQ than just a tuner alone. i was wanting just a little boost with whatever exhaust option i go with. don't know if i should just replace the intercooler with high ram intake OR go with the programmer. would be interested in what you guys think about this. thanks.

i dont think u need a new inter cooler unless u got the plastic one, maybe not even then, some one else will chime in probaly and give u more info , and u probaly wouldnt see any gains unless u had a module or programer

Programmer. You'll get far more bang for your buck from that, as the stock intercooler is fine to power levels WAY above stock.

Flow rate? CFM

Does anyone have the CFM rateing for our intercoolers?
Stock intake 430cfm.
Stock muffler 430cfm.
The inlet and out let from the intercooler isn't that big either.

You have to pay attention to how they word things. You got it right how you quoted it above "more...than just a tuner ALONE". If it's a CHOICE between one or the other, I would be surprised if you could even feel the difference in changing the intercooler. You'd have to have a pretty modded truck to gain much from an intercooler. But see, that's not how they are REALLY advertising it. They are saying that in addition to a tuner, the intercooler makes more usable and continuous power. Even before exhaust and intake, a box is by far the best bang for your buck.

You will notice no benefit to an intercooler until you are running a big tuner and then you will need some tranny work and turbo long before an intercooler. If you don't want any boxes in the engine bay go with a programmer from BullyDog, Diablo, or PPE. If you don't mind a box get a TST,Quad, Juice or similar. Make sure you have gauges for EGT, and Boost and if auto a tranny temp. On my list intercooler is way after propane and water methanol ks

HAHA thas awsome. You gotta love Banks for their creative marketing, praying on uninformed truck owners who open a magazine and call them in seek of more HP.

Most people dont even bother replacing their stocker, ive had about 500HP and had no need to spend the $$$ on any Banks products.

As far as their intercooler goes its a nice pice, at a nice price (surpriseingly)

Id say pass and get a programmer/chip.

The Banks CAC won"t add more than 10hp on stock setup. The little stock charger cannot create the volume necessary to gain more HP without fuel. Now if you have the plastic ends and Dodge won"t replace until failure<than your subject to their time line, That may be a Good reason to upgrade,In-reality the Banks CAC needs to be support by other upgrades. One benefit is it does drop cruising EGTs even with the stock Charger, and you can take it to BANKs.

Only time I would consider going to a bigger intercooler is when EGT's dictate it. I say you will loss power if you install just the intercooler. It'll take longer to spool up the turbo also due to increased volume of the system. I would go with a box and gauges first. Why don't you fill out your signature so we can all see what you have. It'll help us help you.

Luckily you have a 6 speed. THe edge hot juice or the bullydog powerpup crazy larry is about max what you want to run. Anything past that you might eat up your turbo and need a new clutch. TST is great and has a ton more power available and is the basis of high hp stacks...

Wow did you feel that the only thing Banks cared about was selling you stuff you didnt need. Seems like they were pushing you pretty hard to buy their products.

Oh well, search around.... out of everyone here id bet less then 5% of us have Banks electronics and thoes people probably regreat it. There are lots of other companies that sell better electronics with better service and at a better price.

See what kind of box/programmer you want. They work by increasing these 3 paramaters Timing, Pressure, Duration. Find which one works for you..
