even with my crappy front end parts, and the skyjacker shocks (soon to be replaced with bilstein 7100's) these made a HUGE difference in ride quality!!

So what's the reason for this?
To keep it up when loaded? or?

Much more progressive, not so harsh and a bit of lift.

Dustin,
Do you want to get rid of the leafs you removed?

Lsufan78 03-16-2007 06:08 AM

the purpose for these was strictly ride quality. the ride height (i currently sit nose high), is going to be fine tuned by me and don via longer shackles.

pourin'...the only leaf i removed is the fat spring right above the overload spring, which can be seen in my "before" pic. i have no use for it so if you want it, it's yours.

I definitely want them.
I'll send you a PM.

Quick question. The fat leaf above the overload, is that from the factory or is it a add-a-leaf?

I'm looking at add-a-leafs for my 3500, if that's what it is, who's the manufacturer & how stiff did it make the ride?

Thanks
Ben

I'm pretty sure the one you're talking about is from the factory.

His truck didn't have the factory overloads, they go on top of the spring pack. Those huge pieces on the bottom of the first picture are there to limit the amount the pack will sag when heavily loaded.

Mind if I ask what the Carli kit sold for?

I'll probably add air bags, the *** end is a little soft when loaded but I don't want a real harsh ride.

How's it ride with the additional springs?

Lsufan78 03-16-2007 12:22 PM

i'm pretty sure the bigger spring above the overload in the 1st pic, is the add-a-leaf that i added with the skyjacker lift. it rode pretty rough without any weight in the bed.
fisher...my truck did come from the factory with the overload spring...matter of fact it's still there, i just had it cut down to about 6 inches long. as far as price, i got them through don thuren, so u might wanna call and ask him.

I don't think we're talkin the same thing here. Factory "overloads" deffinately go ON TOP of the spring pack, 2 or 3 leaves that contact snubbers on the frame when the truck's loaded, not those heavy leaf things on the bottom of the springs.

They only come on 3500's.

To combine Carli's half-pack to the factory pack on 3500s you lose the bottom 3 factory leafs (including the fat straight overload) and replace them with the 5 new leafs. Because the combined spring packs leafs have a more consistent difference in lengths the new "hybrid" pack has smoother progression and a better ride. That harshness you get with the factory pack when the overloads start striking the next leaf spring is gone. Combine that with a quality set of shocks and your 7500 lb truck will ride like a champ.

I believe what your referencing are usually called helper springs. The big fat leaf at the bottom is generally called an overload.

It gets confusing since the two terms are pretty much interchangable.

Oh yeah, those leafs with the rubber stoppers are on the top of the pack. Either way, they go!
