I got my set back from f1 on friday. it started and idle fine for about 30 sec. then it started to run ruff and lot's of white smoke. any ideas what it could be

Recheck that the injector tubes are seated properly.

Double check tubes, how did you install them??

The way I do them with no problems are as follows...
1. Insert injector, do not tighten.
2. Insert connector tube (balls up), do not tighten.
3. Torque injector down to proper specs (84in/lbs IIRC).
4. Torque connector nuts down to spec (37 lb/ft IIRC).

Should have no problems!

if it started and ran good at first then took off, id bet you got dirt in the fuel system while it was apart and just flushed it down into the nozels....

you now have a chunk of crap holding the injector open.

how does an average joe clean out something like that? Does it have to be sent away or just soaked in a solvent or something similar?

gus's 03 07-21-2009 12:37 PM

pull the injector, remove the nozel, knock the nedle out spray it out with brake cleaner. pay attention to the spray pattern, it HAS to be even, if its not, theres probably a chunck of crap plugging, ot partialy pluging a hole. if some things pluged, reasemble and send it off to be fixed. if the brake cleaner flush's it out then your good to go reasembleing.

helpfull tip, this time before starting to disasemble ANYTHING, do your self a favor, presure wash it and blow every thing off with compresed air.

fyi: the ONLYway to know 100% for sure if the nozel is clear or if you did damage to it is to inspect it with a bor o scope.... not some thing most folks have handy..

well I took the injector put them back in retorque every thing again and same thing bad idle and lots of white smoke. I guess I'm sending them back to f1. Just what I wanted 6 more weeks down[dummy]

deerezilla 07-29-2009 07:29 PM

told me to check the tubes one might be bent or could be wires going to the injectors?

1985cucv 07-29-2009 09:57 PM

could you have a ton of air in the lines? any codes?

XLR8R 07-30-2009 05:14 AM

Re-install and see if you missed anything the first time... otherwise your Smarty should show codes.

deerezilla 07-30-2009 09:20 AM

I had no codes the first time. then I took them out did the install again by the book and same thing. I will try again when i get them back but I'm out of ideas on what it could be

bigd450 07-30-2009 09:36 AM

Sure you didn't have the wires mixed up on an injector?

make sure you dont have a bent push tube or push rod as well. They can cause this. Make sure they sit completely in the tappet. Remove each push tube and roll it on a flat counter top to make sure it is not bent.

One injector appeared to have never been firing at all. 5 had carbon burning on the tip, one was as clean as new.

I checked the nozzles seperately from the injectors. Checked the injectors with stock nozzles and then checked the injectors again with the flux nozzles. All was great.
