I installed the BD Auxiliary Lift Pump Kit. And I have to say, for $259 to my door, I believe the kit is a good deal. Takes about a half day to install, comes complete with everything, (but I added a 3/8 in-line strainer before pump) I've done a search on many web sites and the only complaint I've found was it's not very quiet. Maybe BD has unproved the pump because it just as quiet as the stock lift pump, I can't hear it in the cab and it's mounted under the driver's seat. It comes with three rubber isolators that go between the mounting bracket and truck, then three more rubber isolators that go between the mounting bracket and pump.

The best part is that warm fussy feeling when I look at the fuel pressure and it's at 15 psi at idle.

Nope, depending on your other mods...
If anything it will be low when you upgrade your turbo, injectors, etc...
Quite a few run 20-22psi

Just be careful with the stock filter housing cap, more than 20-22psi and its time to upgrade to the billet cap from genos, or bypass it to an aftermarket fuel filter setup....

 

I have the BD kit and the Vulcan Big Line Kit and Idle at 21-23 psi. WOT I saw the pressure drop to 16 psi once! To me this is a great set up.

 

did you have to do anything to the pump on the filter when you installed it?Thinking about doing it do i need to take it to an auto shop or can a guy do it himself with a few tools?

 

Do you have to drop the tank to do the install? Does it use the factory in-tank pick-up? Does it completely bypass the stock lift pump or work with it?

 

The aux BD set up feeds the stock lift pump. They also have one to replace the factory one.

when the stock lp crashes, it will block flow from the bd unit, and you still arent going anywhere. ditch that filter mounted piece of junk.

the replacement kit comes with a machined aluminum piece that mounts in place of the pump on the filter housing.

you do not have to drop the tank.

 

So is this thing a direct replacement or is there some mods that has to occur? Where is the pump located? Is this the same as a FASS pump? Thanks..

 

installation is as follows
1-you cut the steel feed and return lines back by the tank where ever you wanna mount the pump
2-mount pump on frame rail with supplied bracket and hardware
3-using the supplied rubber hose you run the feed line into the pump and back out,same with the return line
4-install oil pressure switch on drivers side of engine and make connections with supplied harness
5-harness includes a positive and negative wires that run up to the battery
6-run the positive and negative wires back to the pump
7-tie all the wiring fast
8-fire the truck up and check for leaks

this is for the kit that keeps the oem pump inline,(03-04.5 pump on filter housing)I have been running this setup for over two years no problems 23 psi at idle never pulls below 18 psi,yes if the oem pump takes a dump you maybe up --it creek without a paddle but also by helping the stock pump out should make it last much longer

 

With the BD Aux kit you don't have to drop the tank, it helps your existing lift pump, doesn't have to work so hard, should last longer. Hey, just remember, nothing last forever.

Everyone told me that the BD pumps were noisy, and I don't know what they were talking about. It's under the drivers seat and this morning I opened the door and put my head out as low as I could hang over without falling out and couldn't hear the pump over the engine.

Maybe it won't last a 100 years like a FASS, but I'm happy with.

 

Thats on 03/40s btw, 05/06s are different...

 

the 05/06's are in the tank. the bd pump cannot feed that pump, the factory lp is in the way. this discussion was about the bd pump supplying fuel to the factory lp, increasing its life and pumping capacity, or about deleting the filter mounted pump completely.

if a filter mounted(03,04) pump fails, the bd pump cant push fuel through it, you are still DIW. if a tank mounted pump fails(05,06) the bd pump cannot suck fuel through is, you are also DIW.

if you are adding a bd kit, get the one that removes the filter mounted pump. you will be happier with the reliability you gain.

 

So the BD kit really isn't a great choice for the 3rd gen with tank mounted lift pump, right? I really want the GDP Walbro kit but I want to keep my factory fuel pick-up...
