How is it driving w/Smarty on moderate TM

Hello. I have the wild TM going right now. Wife hates it. How much milder is the moderate TM tune? I did try the mild TM tune, and I am not sure I felt that much of a diff. from stock. It was a while ago though, so it is hard to remember. I have tried a lot of different tunes & levels.

Thanx.

Well normally I run the Moderate TM version of code. Currently I am running the lastest Wild TM version. I have tried the Mild TM with the beta Bob sent. The Moderate TM seems to be closer to the Wild TM than to the Mild TM. I don't quite know how that relates on a manual, but would assume the low end fueling would be comparable. The I think you would be satisfied with the Moderate TM for daily driving. Just my .02.

I currently run moderate #7. I love it, mainly because it's much more leniant on the pedal when taking off, but it sure does wake up when you lay the hammer down. The clutch can also handle it good. I see you have a dd 3250, so no worries there. Should suit you fine.

Quality info, thanx guys. Moderate it will be. Actually I asked for the Mild. If I get to try the beta, will I have the option of what TM to try, or is on TM level sent to be downloaded?

Thanx guys.

The betas didn't have any specified tq management levels. The betas probably compared most to the wild side, with the exceptions of the 2.10/ 2.11 betas. Any of the moderate tq managements will suit you. If you want strictly beta, it will probably be just as wild.

Thanx Rip. I see everyone talking about the beta 4.4. This might be a stupid question. But is there one and only one 4.4 beta tune? Or are there a few diff. ones.

4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 are revisions of one program from what I've heard. 4.4 is 4.4. There is no imitator...lol

Thanx Rip. I read a couple things since I posted that. People say nothing but awesome stuff about the 4.4.

Thanx.

4.4 is a blast....best stuff for smarty so far....only 1 file for 4.4....but hopefully the race software will be out reasonably soon, and have the diff tq mgmt options so you can choose your poision....although i cant see anything beating 4.4...unless you need the 4k rpm option or the 230hp option....both of which will require significant mods to operate safely.

FYI, my wife didnt like the wild tq mgmt either...but she loves 4.4....it's a lot less touchy (vs. wild and 4.2 or 4.3)...but still get's on it very hard.

My impressions of Beta 4.4 vs Wild vs Moderate:

Beta 4.4 throttle is very linear. Overall, 4.4 is my favorite. The old Wild was very touchy, non-linear. The new Wild (4.11) is much better and close to linear, but still is a bit touchy. The Moderate is very linear and the power difference is not very noticeable from Wild.

I like 4.4 on #5 (not that levels made too much of a difference), Wild (4.11A) on #7, and Moderate (3.11A) on #9. I did notice a little less power off the line with Moderate on #7 vs Wild #7. Moderate #9 is very good. The EGT's on the new softwares are awesome. I'm trying to see if I can get a 1-1.5 mpg gain running Moderate.

Alright..........may be a stupid question, but not too computer savvy. I got my Smarty Sr. in 6/07. Have not downloaded a thing since. Usually run on #5 or #7. What's all the buzz about 4.4 and 4.1????

Well forget about the beta 4.xs. Those are for crazy people like me that push limits to the max[duhhh]. The latest official Smarty releases is a culmination of the beta 4.x testing in released form according to Marco. This is what most people should do. Now on the other hand I am waiting patiently for the RACE version[dummy].

Load the latest Mads release for you configuration(The normal version loaded from Mads should be stock truck and Mild TM). Yours will definitely not have the latest version. The new versions improve just about everything, less timing rattle, smoother power band, much lower EGTs, etc.

Just my .02.

rip 112 01-08-2008 09:32 AM

^^^ I agree. The betas were powerhouses and should not be used on an otherwise stock truck. The current programs on mads site are awesome, and cut the smoke down alot.

molalla1ton 01-08-2008 09:38 AM

^^^^^also waiting patiently for RACE version. On my truck beta 4.2 works best.

What site do I go to download the betas..............and is it as simple as plugging Smarty into my home computer, push a few buttons and whammo???
