How do adjustable ball joints get tightened?
I recently got the trux levelling kit, rims, new tires and wheel allignment. all is good looks good but i notice now theres kinda a slight clunk in the front. not a bad one but minor. it wasnt there before the wheel allignment and levelling kit anyways. my ? is what could it be? all bolts look snug. My wheel allignment shop had no idea how to adjust my moog adjustable ball joints. I told them theres a allan socket under the grease nipple. My ball joints are just over a year old now and im wondering if maybe theres a set screw or something that they didnt tighten. its almost as if i have slightly wore ball joints now....? any ideas. is there a set screw under the grease nipple as well?
the only way I've ever seen ball joints be adjustable is by having the ball offset from the taper. Then in order to adjust them you take an allen wrench in the bottom of the taper section, move it until you get your desired camber angle, and then tighten the castle/lock nut. There might just be a hex on the end of the taper rather than an allen spot, but that depends on the manufacturer.
truck drives good.no death wobble or anything. wondering if they even did adjust it? do u need to adjust caster, camber and toe in after a levelling kit? all it really does is raise the body 2 inches in the front.
they probably did adjust it because that's the only way to set the camber on the truck, there is no reason to run camber on these trucks so your wheels should be dead nuts on straight up and down. Caster angles are more controlled by the arms and where they bolt to the links with those adjustable washers. When you raise the front end up it has the effect of spacing the front axle down, technically, when this is done it is actually in what would be droop from the stock settings. The caster angle should be readjusted afterward because of this to ensure your angles are correct and within spec. 2" won't make a big difference, but it could load up the balljoints funky and could cause them to fail prematurely.
