Seems like a great setup!

Did you weld a plate to the tube for the filter minder too?
I take my intake off, I don't think they would care but it only takes 5 mins to put the stock box back in and I don't have to worry about them giving me grief over a intake.
just drill a hole for the filter minder rubber grommet and then install the filter minder

So would that cause an issue with the air filter?

I just finishd my kit and it cost me $0! Got the elbow and tubing from a junt truck and the filter my buddy gave me for helping him. I had to put a 45 deg tube from the elbow to the filter and the filter had a bracked in the center of the chrome end cap so I bolted it to the inside of the fender. I now have more throttle responce and qicker spool up and a GREAT wistle!

I don't see any problems with it unless for some reason you filter gets totally covered.... from what I have seen on mine the snow that makes it in under the hood and fender is a very small amount.

Lexan would be sweet!! I will be doing a lexan top for sure on mine. I have been busy working on other projects(my 53 ****** crawler). I have the cardboard templates cut and formed for the box I just need to spend the time to make it all fit under the hood.
don't worry I will post up as soon as I get the box in!....
I hope I have time this week but my truck goes in for a leaking CP3 so we will see what happens.

But it blocks half the engine compartment!
I checked your pics, you don't have any of what's inside it? Home made I presume?
(enquiring minds wanna know)

would it be a good idea to add another 90 or 45 right before the filter? Which would put the filter in the square fender opening? Similar to the workhorse, scotty 5, etc. I would think it would suck in more outside air.

sure, what ever works for you. I did not do that because I have plans for a box and my box will have the filter mount built into it.

Nothing's inside of it, just the impeller about 12" away from the filter media's surface, and the IAT right before the elbow.

I also made a cowl-induction hat for it, which isn't shown (need to get a recent photo!)

Works really well.
