Seems like that would work perfectly for holding up the filter.. Now I guess I need to just measure to find out if the 6" will clear my york. If not, I have an idea.

Okay, well I finally got all the parts as well and for a bracket a came up with an easy solution. I'm not sure if I'm the only one who did it this way, but I left the bottom portion of the stock airbox in place, the amsoil filter sits over it nicely and their is enough hood clearance.

So to secure it I took a piece of 1/2"X1/16" aluminum flat bar (lowe's sell this item in 3 feet lengths for a couple dollars) and bolted one end to the side of the stock bottom airbox, bent it over the area where the filter is clamped to the 6" tube and bolted the other end to another area on the side of the stock bottom airbox. I hope that made sense. If I take a pic of it can someone else post it?

Also, the whistle is awesome and makes up for all of the extra parts I now have since I tried to deviate from the orginal design. Once again if anyone needs a 5" to 6" elbow and a piece of 5" tubing let me know. I also have (2) 5" T-clamps and (1) 4" T-clamp.

Thank you again for sharing your design

Txoval, did you end up with the same parts as Willy's? I plan on ordering the parts, but want to make sure it will fit my '04. Did you need to cut your filter box to leave bottom part for bracing. I like the idea of keeping box intact for reinstall if needed. Great write up.

Yes, I did order the same parts and I didn't have to modify the bottom portion of the stock airbox. It fits perfectly, you'll have to play with how much you overlap the rubber elbow and the aluminum tubing (the 5.5" tube, since it adjusts the height of the filter and 5.5" to 6" elbow). How do I post a pic of it? 53Willy, do I need to email it to you?

That strap with the stock box looks like it works really nice!!

TXOVAL Mar 3, 2007 03:42 PM

I polished the bottom tube because I thought it would take more abuse and the coating would chip, I sprayed the 6" tube with POR15 silver (tough stuff)

I wanted to make the weld on piece round like yours, but I didn't have a hole saw big enough and after welding the square piece on it looked okay.

The strap didn't turn out as good I wanted, but I'm sure one of us will take it a another step further. I was walking through the hardware store and came across that aluminum flat bar and thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks again

Looks good TX. And, thanks for the info. Ordering parts on Monday. Can't wait.

I put my intake on today. It really does whistle! I did not remove the baffles in the lower elbow or remove the silencer ring. How much loader will it be if I gut the pipe and remove the ring? I want all the flow I can get. I don't wna to hear engine drone though.
