Homemade 6" Air intake, AKA the "whistler", tech write-up
Leave the deflectors in....it acts as a TAG (turbo air guide).
Fellas,
I wanted to offer a bit of advice in keeping the filter from dropping and it will save you from having to make a brace. If you will look, there is a very heavy gauge brown and red wire that comes off of a solenoid looking thing by the battery.
What I did, is arrange for the rubber flange on the bottom of the filter to lay on those wires. There is no way that the filter will move forward with it laying on the heavy gauge wires and the mounted solenoid deal.
You could also arrange it so the aluminum tube lays on it if you wanted. Best of luck

I would rather build a bracket then let it bounce on the grid heater wires....
I guess I will build one and show you guys how easy it really is.

Actually, the way that I have it in there it just lays on the cables and doesn't bounce.Your wasting time.....get out in your garage and start fabricating that bracket
Well guys, I asked the question earlier in this post on now that the parts have arrived I'm glad I decided to do this.
I bought a 4" to 5" elbow, 5" tube, 5" to 6" elbow, 6" tube and then the amsoil filter. It cost a little more because I had to buy that 4" to 5" elbow, which is much stiffer than the stock elbow off of the turbo intake, and is a much smoother transition. I'm not sure how much affect it will have on flow, but I'd have to imagine it helps since the stock elbow at the turbo jumps from 4" to 5.5" immediately. Once I weld on the air temp bracket I'll try to post pics

I really like the intake setup you guys are doing. I have a question though. Is there such a thing as getting too much air in the intake and through the turbo? If so, what are the drawbacks. Or is that totally not the case, I'm looking at setting up a similar intake on my 01 Dodge. Thanks for the help.
Well guys, bad news for me...should have never deviated from ****** design
The 4" to 5" elbow is too darn big and hits the oil filter which doesn't allow it to fit on the turbo. So...if anybody here wants a 5" tube 6" long, a 4" to 5" elbow and a 5" to 6" elbow let me know
Luckily I already have the 5.5" tube, so I just need to purchase the 5.5" to 6" elbow

Finally got the last of my parts in from Intakehoses.com. Put it on the truck this afternoon. WOW does this thing F'n whistle
. I just need to figure some way to secure this thing now with a mount of somesort.

this is what I was thinking..... get a small piece of metal that's the red piece. drill a hole big enough to fit the battery box mount on the pass side fender...mount it and then at the filter use a small hose clamp to hold the metal to the air filter hose clamp. that should hold it in place???
does that make any sense???
does that make any sense???
Seems like that would work perfectly for holding up the filter.. Now I guess I need to just measure to find out if the 6" will clear my york. If not, I have an idea.
