Help ASAP with valve lash 06
Installed my studs last night, but have taken the rocker arms out too many times due to the heat cycles, to not lash the valves. I understand the upper area as far as how to lash them, but 1 where do you find the marks for TDC, BDC. 2 how do you turn the crank to get there, I dont have a barring tool, and thiers no standard altenator nut.
Please be specific as I have not done this in 12 years since high school shop, and never on a cummins. Thanks Guys.... Rye.

your balancer has a tdc mark on it. set it to tdc then adjust the valves that need to be adjusted. then rotate one full revolution to you get tdc again. thats bdc now. adjust the valves. i usually turn the alt but if you cant then take your inspection coner off you tranny( 3 8mm bolts) and turn your flywheel. intake set at .10thou exh .20 thou. i usually 8 and 18 on a modded truck though. the alt nut haas to go counter clockwise and i think it takes a 1'' socket but cant remember for sure.
I do believe that the 06's are different at the exhaust of .26 thou but I'd do a search as this was discussed weeks ago. Hmm my race shop told me to lash the valves at .02 thou more than stock minimum not less. ks
yes the exhausts go to .026" on most if not all the 06 trucks. There should be a red sticker on the valve cover saying so. Also on the dampner there is a TDC mark. Just roll the engine over till it is at 12 Oclock. I am not sure what to tell you about the alternator nut. I haven't came across that issue yet. I have always been able to roll mine over off the alternator.

If you would give me a e-mail, i could send you the repair manual from Cummins Quickserve. It says "Acceptable range" .006-.015 intake, .015-.030 exhaust. If adjustment is needed set intake .010 and exhaust .020. I used my engine serial # when i looked this up. build date 9-2004 on the engine. hope this helps.

The 2006 is SUPPOSED to be at .010" Intake and .026" Exhaust.

Thanks guys, when it warms up a little I will try again. I swear I dont see a mark on the balancer but its gotta be there. Ran her yesterday and have a little more choppy sound at idle and a distinct rattle at certain low rpms. Guess Ill just have to get her done... Thanks Rye
