Has anyone ever removed the heater grid on warm climate trucks?

Has anyone ever removed the heater grid on warm climate trucks?

I live in Florida and have no use for the intake grid heater...it's nothing more than a restriction for me in the warm climates of FL. Anyway, has this ever been done? Will it throw codes if disconnected? Anyone make a spacer to eliminate it without making intake mods?

thanks!

Yeah www.powerbypoole.com has the spacer...Its called "Power Blok"
I run one on my truck even in the cold winters out here.

It take about 5 seconds of cranking before my truck starts much of the time in the winter...then it smokes white from the colder intake air charge.

How much or a restriction do you think it is? I would love to get rid of it in the warmer months. Do you think it puts much moe of a strain on the starting system if it is 50 and above?

It seems like a bottle neck in air flow.

I also build these. They look nice, but, when I dyno tested them there was zero gain in hp.

That's surprising. It sure as heck looks like a restriction. What do you do with your old cables? Anything to disconnect to prevent codes and/or shorts?

What level of HP truck did you dyno where you noticed zero gain?

You must live way south. My grid heater comes on pretty often in the morning (7:30 or so)... too often (hate the cold). Came on this morning, 59 degrees on the overhead.

The truck was a 2nd gen 24 valve with a 66 turbo at around 650hp. I've never tested these on the 3rd gens, so I shouldn't say they won't help, because I know the intake horn has more restriction than the older trucks. Also, they would probably make a bigger difference on trucks running twins with more air flow.

Guys you probably wont see a dyno gain with just this mod.
But I chalk it up as a restriction and freeing the way for airflow is only GOOD!!
