Goosenecks

Posted this in the towing section and got no response in 2 days, so here it is.

Hey guys,
I currently do not have a gooseneck but will be getting one soon. I am going to be going across Texas to fix up a rental house that I bought in college. I will be hauling out cabinets, wood, tools, doors, etc. On the trip back, I will be hauling my old boat back. The trailer is old and I just dont trust it on a long trip to not break and lose the boat. The boat is about 17 ft long on the trailer and is aluminum so it isnt more then 2000 lbs, but not sure on the exact weight.

What I am looking for:

I need a trailer that I can rent to go on a gooseneck that will be able to haul this stuff out there and then haul the boat back. I need it to be closed in case of weather and so that I have no worries about things blowing out, etc.

My questions:

Do I need a goose neck for this type of haul? I would like one anyways, but doubt I will use it much.

What kind of gooseneck will I need?

What kind of trailer do I need? I know it should be about 20 ft long.

Where can I get this trailer in the Dallas, Tx area?

Any other tips or advice?

Thanks guys.

Since you're not hauling a ton of weight, a bumper pull should be sufficient and will be cheaper. As to where to buy one in Dal, TX, couldnt tell you...

This is the Big Tex dealer in Dallas. http://www.morningstarauto.com/
They rent multiple different kinds of trailers. Goosenecks, loboys, enclosed.

They are on Loop 12 at Northwest Highway

Now, do you have to buy one? or is renting acceptable?

If you buy one go with www.legendtrailer.com or www.longhorntrailers.com
these are both over in East Texas I-20 and Sulpher Springs area.
I run both of these.

Now, almost anywhere you go (Except Big Tex) there is going to be a wait. They have to build it.

There is another place on I45 in Madisonville that I've talked to. www.midwaytrailers.com

You definately do not need a gooseneck for that weight. A bumper pull would handle way more than that with ease. A bumper pull is good to about 10k, whuile a fifth wheel is good thru around 18 k or so, while a goose neck hitch is from there to upwards of 25k or maybe more. So you decide, you might allready have a factory reciever hitch to pull a bumper pull type trailer, and a 5 th wheel or gooseneck would be an added expense you don't need to make to install for this type of pull.
