Going from 33s to 35s

I have a Thurn 2.5" leveling kit up front and 4.5" BS wheels with 33/12.5-18s on the truck now. I really want to go to a 35 for my next tire and was wondering if this was possible with my lift/rim comb. If so is the rubbing going to be that bad or should I get some of Thurens control arms? Let me know. Thanks

Stock tires are roughly 33 inches, so a two inch lift and 35's are a doable combo as long as the tires aren't too wide.

With the 12.5 you're going to get some rubbing at full turn to lock, but as long as you're aware of it then it doesn't become a problem.

stock tires are 32in,i just put 285s whitch are 33in,i have a 2in level kit on my megacab, looks like 35s shouldnt be a prob,if it is get some wheel spacers.

The biggest issue might be the backspacing on the wheels, 4.5" is going to push them out and might have fender clearance issues

hotrod929 10-13-2010 12:09 AM

that is the issue im worried about is the fender clearance. im just worried that the 35s will tear up the fenders.

Would a set of new control arms that put the front axle forward a bit help or be needed? Thanks

4.5 B.S. you going to need a 4" lift. at least i did

I ran 35's with a 2" leveling kit & stock wheels. Only rubbing was on my control arms at full lock. It rubbed off the paint from the control arms, but I dont think that really hurts anything.

The problem with using wheels with less offset (pushing the wheels out further) is that it will tear up your ball joints fast. It puts a lot more leverage on them.

Think of it this way.... the tire is 2 inches bigger. That means it will take up 1 inch more space on the back and the front (and top and bottom). Just turn your wheels in different positions and look at the space between them and the fender/control arms. If you have more than an inch with the 33's then you are good to go.

I have used this method before but one thing to remember is that tire width will play a part in the clearance as well as tire height when turned, same width tire, no worries

When I went to the 315 tires they did rub a bit at full lock. To stop this happening I cold bonded a strip of metal about .080" to the steering stops. No more rubbing.

Got any photos of this set up? I am planning on going the route, 33's with 4.5" backspacing. Does this combination have tough appearance?
